I never hear much about mods to increase performance of the 4.0 V6 used in the Tacoma Pre Runners or FWD models other than a K&N Air Filter or Exhaust, which I have done. Ignoring the supercharger offered by Toyota.

The Taco 4.0 L platform should easily put out 350 reliable HP in normally aspirated trim with cam changes, intake mod, high performance headers and a tune making a Pre-Runner one nasty little truck.

I am not a big fan of superchargers for daily driving, reliability and mpg. But I do like a normally aspirated engine that wants to run if called upon.

Does Toyota or the aftermarket companies offer performance products that can address this? I know you can purchase HP headers but without the other mods to get the motor to breathe it is just worth the expense IMO.

Besides,...I love to give the Big Trucks a good rear view of my tailgate.

I know you can get pistons, rods, clean up the heads, re-sleeve the blocks etc. TorSpeed has. Find his thread in the performance subheader. He also runs a supercharger, I think he's at about 400 HP.

You have to get past the ECU in Toyota. Then the sky is the limit.

Bullydog came out only recently with a tuner for the tacoma. It should help unlock hp in the existing platform but also by cracking the code I think people are free to explore those modification that are mentioned.

I am enjoying the supercharger though! unlike a turbo you get instant power and throttle modulation.
