A year old and 11k miles when I bought it. Nothing special about the muffler, other than its missing its tailpipe!! :D Can't imagine it's not original but I'll ask the dealer when I take it in. If it was replaced in that short amount of time, then the quality of the work is worse than I first thought!!??

    Wait, did I miss the joke . . . ?

ya that doesnt look stock. It looks smaller (which most aftermarket ones are). That one also has an larger increased diameter tip which stock ones dont have.

    Here's a pic of a stock one:

It is all starting to make sense now. Though, its even funnier then about the dealer's offer, isn't it?!

Dealer service manager looked at it personally, snapped some digital photos and everything. Reviewed his photos (not mine in the first post) with his regional service manager and I can only assume their boss who approved the offer to replace the parts. How long do you think it will take them to retract their offer? I can't wait to see what happens at the dealership this week once the service tech has it up in the air!!

$45 for a new exhaust? What are you waiting for?

If they retract the offer, you can walk. I bet the tech just does what he is told.

Considering it snows in Iowa, I'd say 62k miles on the original pipe isn't too bad. With the exhaust system fully exposed, it's a magnet for corrosion and rust. Been that way on every Toyota truck I've had .. whether the parts were OEM, Midas, Meineke, or small local muffler shop. I'm surprised Toyota is willing to cost share that much. I'd take them up on that in a heartbeat.

If the $45 is for labor, ask about going in there and getting the muffler from them and installing it yourself.

Unless they sold you the truck recently with a rusted out exhaust, I'd personally have a hard time going through with this; what goes around comes around.

Its a scam! No, I am just kidding, $45 for an exhaust is pretty good if you ask me.
