Any idea how to mount a Tekonsha P3 brake controller in a 2023? I looked for the switch panel with the cubby (2016-?), but the one I found only show three switch mounts. I need four switch mounts and have not been able to find the cubby panel in this configuration. I have not checked to see if there is enough harness slack to move any of the switches to the center of the dash.

Any other options out there other than bolt it under the dash?

MESO has a custom face plate option to integrate a P3 into the left side panel. If you're not dead set on the P3, I'd suggest checking out a Redarc. The main module mounts anywhere out of sight with only a small multifunction knob to place upfront. Do a little searching and you will find lots of options.

I have the P3 and the custom panel that was used to mount in it after removing the cubby from the 2016. I pulled them from a 2016 I just traded in for a new 2023, and the 2023 does not have the cubby built in. I would rather not get a new controller if possible, but would rather mount this one the way I had it in my old truck.

I have a Redarc. Put it in my 4Runner.

I still have a Primus that I need to put in my Tacoma and am always looking for a "good" way to do it.

The thing I hate most about the Redarc is whenever anyone here asks about a different controller, or one they already have, most of the advice is "get a Redarc."

It's a great product but it's not the answer to everything. I don't need to splash the cash out to replace a perfectly fine contoller. I assume OP doesn't either.

FWIW, here's my setup. Everyone worries about legroom-- I'm 6'3 and can count on one hand how many times I've hit it with my leg. I consider it a non-issue.

I use this version, plug it into the 12V when needed, store it in the console out of the way when not towing.

I looked at the Redarc, and it looks like a decent solution, but I would like to make the P3 work since I already own it and installed the wire harness. I don't really want to put any holes in the dash if I don't have to. I think I will see if there is enough slack to move one of the switches to the center switch panel. If not, I will probably get the Redarc since my 12V power sources are both in use when traveling.

Pictures of what you are working with would help. If I understand correctly, you had a 2016 with a cubby up top, and switches below. The cubby was modified to fit the P3 which you kept along with the modified panel. You now have a 2023 that has switches up top and below. Right?

You can mount that 2016 panel, the dash behind is the same. But as you mentioned, would need to relocate existing switches. So yes, extensions available,

The other issue I see, if I recall the rear window switch was on the left in 2016, it moved to the center. The panel socket for that switch is unique.

You can also keep the switches as is and install the P3 with MESO switch panel like this: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/custom-switch-panels.533747/page-81#post-22958432

I had that setup and got tired of it jamming my leg when getting in and out all the time. Also worried me if in an accident. Wound up putting it in the above cubby. But that might be an issue for some.

Thank you, that is good information. Yes, I had the 2016 with the P3 installed in the cubby opening above the bottom switch row. I have a faceplate that locked the brake controller into that spot and filled the gap around it. That Meso switch panel would be perfect but is close to the Redarc controller cost. The switch extensions may be a better solution for me. I will have to research this a little more.

The Redarc can mount right in any of the switch locations. It looks great.

Buuuut, on mine the dang thing is so smart it looks at the voltage of the truck and what its getting through the trailer to ground and if it sees a difference in voltage it just straight up doesnt work. Its a stupid design. If the grounding has any issues (or at least enough of a voltage drop), then it turns the brake controller off. Ive had it happen several times at the most inconvenient times hauling down a big hill with a trailer. Ive had to rewire the ground on 2 trailers just to make it more reliable.

Its a stupid function. Give me an error code or a light, dont turn off my freaking brakes!!!

The Tekonsha I had in the past never seem to do anything like that. But it is butt ugly hanging down by your leg smacking it every time you get in and out.
