Crying about nothing is what causes this type of stuff.

You have on person place one sticker on a sign... then someone else comes along and see a sticker and thinks its ok... rinse and repeat...

What if this sign was at a National Park? State Park? A well known landmark?

The person that placed the sticker commented on IG saying the exact same thing as you just did... my response was that yes, their may have been stickers on those signs already... but what gives you the right to start that trend somewhere else? To start defacing another sign and keeping that trend going instead of just leaving it alone? You are part of the exact problem...

At this point, it is a mute point, their point has been made, so has the way that others have reacted towards it... so honestly. It isn't going to change, I will continue to call people out for stupid stuff, just like I hope that other people call me out for stupid stuff if I make a mistake, at least I might own up to it.

After this reply, I am already moving on to other things. Like what I am having for lunch.

Yes, the real issue could lie with the person placing the sticker, but to me if a company as well known as them wants to encourage this type of behavior, then I think it is kinda pathetic and shows what values the company holds.

Exactly, if no ones anyone accountable or calls people out for stuff... then what is stopping people from doing the dumb stuff that gets blasted on social media... like going off trails, leaving trash, putting graffiti in National Parks, etc...

I honestly had to google this to understand this a little more since I never know with you and am usually afraid when you comment on stuff...

So from what I can understand... I agree? No single sticker placement thought it caused the entire sign to be filled with them...

Well it is my time of the month...

But yes, actually I do use reusable grocery bags, shop at goodwill, and I do carry a nalgene water bottle as much as I can for water... and I recycle and have started to compost at my house.

I mean I always love going places and wanting to take a picture in front of a sign of somewhere I have been, but it is just a huge billboard for all these companies that have stickers placed on them?

You know that is located on private property and the graffiti stuff is encouraged right? So not sure I see the connection here at all?

No I did not, he was trying to point out about other signs up north that are littered with stickers already... if you read the comments on the TT post, you will see what I am talking about.

Their may have been stickers on that post... but why add to it? Why add to it and then share it with the company and then that company share it with their followers and think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread?

I feel like if we want to be militant about tread lightly and leave no trace then we have to say the sign shouldn't be there either. I can also see how accepting that things like this aren't a problem could lead to other more negatively impactful actions such as people tagging up rocks, trees etc and "doing it for the gram" type of stuff once space runs out on the poles. Or possibly people seeing it as a trashy type of area and feeling like leaving trash behind is ok. I'm not saying that is the way that it will/would go for sure but I could see how it could happen.

Personally I wouldn't have left it.

Psst, Ant Farm artists - the group responsible for maintaining the Cadillac Ranch that exists on private property - encourage visitors to graffiti, spray paint, and yes, even sticker the displays. So...

Let’s just continue that line of thought and say the road shouldn’t be there either. The Canadian government just spent the last few years running heavy duty construction equipment back and forth over the tundra leaving a huge trace.

    Yes.
I know you haven't asked for it, but my advice is... Life is far too short to get this worked up over something you have literally zero control over.

If you would like to make donations to Tread Lightly (something I support) and be an advocate/instructor/agent of change for good, teaching and guiding folks into responsible wheeling awesome. That's something you do have control over. But the actions of others, who aren't in your circle aren't in that scope.

I make it a point to advise people that using ham radio equipment (Baofeng radios etc.) as FRS/GMRS/MURS radios is illegal, when I meet them and we are talking about communications gear. I know people use them illegally all the time, and I could make it a point to go out to every youtube video and facebook post ever to call people out about it, but really I just can't. I don't want to be angry all the time. Instead I do things like Volunteer to teach Radio Communications classes to groups of people who might benefit from the knowledge.

This is where tread lightly is a contradiction. There’s really no such thing. Like let’s drive a truck where one has never been but it’s okay cause we have a trasharoo.

I get that saying tread lightly makes you feel better about your choices but really the only way to tread light would be to backpack and hike everywhere.

You can only do that if a private stream and it’s actually encouraged. Otherwise there will be a whole thread about why it’s bad.
