After listening to my sister in California praise her '01 Tacoma and having driven it a few times myself when I was visiting, I decided that the next vehicle I would get would be a used Tacoma and I wasn't wrong. I was sick of car payments and wanted something I could pay cash for and I got lucky enough to find an '03 on Kijiji with 290k km's on it. It's a double cab, Pre-Runner, 2 wheel drive and pretty much fully loaded. I spruced it up a bit with some Nerf bars, a new stereo with Bluetooth for hands free and a remote starter for our cold Canadian winters! There were a few things that needed to be done to it, one being the timing belt which hadn't ever been changed and was showing signs of cracking and a recharge of the AC unit but all in all it is a great truck. Very little rust and no dents which was surprising for a truck of such age. Everything works great and she purrs like a kitten. I am having intermittent starting problems with it so I have to investigate the wires and battery terminals to find out what is causing this issue and I am having the fuel tank replaced in a couple of weeks due to some corrosion that may eat through at any moment.

Nope, no accidents just simple corrosion and it was the tank. Quebec roads are notoriously salty. Actually sprung a little leak due to the rust. I replaced the tank with an OEM spec tank and replaced the strap as well. Problem is now when I go to the gas station, I can't fill the tank up full speed because the nozzle locks up so I have to fill it very slowly. I'm thinking that maybe when they put the new tank on that they either didn't connect something or there is something blocked which is not allowing the vapours to escape and telling the pump to turn off. As I said, it works if I fill the tank slowly but not when I fill it at full tilt. I'm bringing it back to the mechanic on Thursday but wanted to be armed with a little information beforehand. Anyone had any similar occurrences ?
