    Jiggle valve placement.

According to this video the Jiggle Valve should be at the 6’oclock(downward) position .

    4 run, 2 don't
    Didn't watch the video, but the FSM itself states 6 o'clock for a 5VZ and 12 o'clock for a 3VZ.

I would just follow the FSM.

@1997tacomav6 did some testing of the jiggle valve in both and 6 o’clock gave lower temps for the 5vz iirc

I had my timing belt/water pump/thermostat changed awhile back. I have a'04, 3.4 v6 with a scan gauge installed and knew immediately that they'd put the thermostat in at 12 o'clock. Read 8-9* higher.

The issue isn't whether it is effective, it's if the temperature changes depending on the orientation of it and @1997tacomav6 has a bunch of data showing the difference between 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock positions and operating temp based on those positions.

I tested this theory a few years back. I can confirm it’s a false claim. Tried both 12 & 6 position with a new OEM thermostat and each drive is approximately an hour. Monitor temperature with a scan gauge.

If proper steps were followed when refilling, there’s no worry. The jiggle valve it to prevent the collection of air pocket when the thermostat is in closed position.

That would make sense on up 3rz.....
but down on the 5vz......thats messed up
so we want to trap air on 5vz.

but yeah I still pony up for the $30 oem one and follow the rule.....
but I dont think it matters to me......I dumped the cheapass crimp top radiator and the pink stuff...

I'm thinking fresh coolant every three years......trumps any position.....

I have never installed one correctly in my career lol.

I dont open service manuals for timing belts and it shows!

I dont think it makes a massive difference, it doesnt make sense to me that its upside down when every other vehicle on the planet is 12 o clock.

Hard to come to a definitive conclusion then where he’s pretty meticulous about taking notes on his truck and there’s another guy in this thread that says he’s 8-9* hotter with his *potentially* 12’oclock valve. I don’t have any skin in the game as my wife’s 4runner is running it at 6 o’clock with a 2rz radiator, my daily has og stock coolant, parts store pink, and universal coolant all in there and stays perfectly cool, and my 98 has a 170* stat with an aluminum radiator and idles at 184 on a hot day standing still (unfortunately that’s all it can do lol).

Still has to be repeatable across multiple examples to be a conclusive design but interesting to see there’s at least one contradicting data point.

There is always someone that adds 2+2 and does not get 4, so "the rest of the world must be wrong".

If anyone wants "way beyond" overwhelming consensus from countless documentations, search this forum for "jiggle valve". You shouldn't need to read all 10 pages of returns to get the picture and that's just back to 2016, there are many more beyond that.

Traps air? At 6 o'clock that would be all of 2 or 3 cubic inches, of course that gets flushed out the second the thermostat cracks open.

Why is the V6 different than most? Here's a hint, the stat is at the very bottom and upstream of the engine.

Now why does the phenomenon occur? There is one totally logical reason.
