things with sharp edges....

im looking to make an investment in a good knife...anyone have experience with any of these, or any other quality outdoor/survival knives (dont want to go too large.)

I've only had good experience with Gerber... Never seen the other ones before...

 

Don't know if you've seen Knife Tests on youTube, but it's basically this crazy guy beating the living **** out of every knife he can get his hands on. I watched a lot of his tests before I went with my KaBar D2 which is a superb knife, although probably bigger than what you want (7" blade). This is his test of the Gerber LMF II ASEK.

I've always preffered buck knifes over any other type just becuase they have done all I need to do with them and have stayed dependable

 

My buddy has a Becker, He highly recommends it.
I'm old school, KA-Bar, its cheaper $44 or so on Sportsmans guide. 250000 marines cant be wrong

Never had a bad gerber knife, I think I have like 5 of them. They're made of awesome steel

 

how about a Leatherman knife?...I dunno just have one sitting here, and its just like a knife with a belt clip, not a fancy one

Do a research on it. Buy a D2 or S30V or at least a N690 steel.

I have inherited my uncles KA-bar, I use it for everything Hunting, fishing, camping and survival primitive expeditions. It Takes an edge, Keeps an edge,Takes a beating and has lasted 40+ years. For the price I could buy 3 or 4 of the high end "survivial knives". Buy what you want, KA-bar is the best value in my opinion. That and an Ontario Knife company machete.

the Gerber LMF is nice...held one for first time last weekend at the Fun store. a buddy here at work has a Rat Cutlery...very nice, good balance, and i really liked the handle material.

 

I use a Fallkniven F1. Small, light, thick blade and stainless.

If you want a fixed blade I recommend Fallkniven or RAT (or Ontario equivalent). Folders, I only buy Benchmade but that's just me.

 

ive had a SOG seal pup for years and its never let me down. next knife i buy will be that LMF ASEK though since ive heard a lot of good about it.

 

I would go with Rat Cutlery. The model pictured is smaller and lighter than the 3 knives you posted. Its equally strong and holds a good edge after sharpening when needed. old thread, but an update: i ended up waiting long enough that i didnt have to spend the money myself, instead i was given the RAT rc-3mil as a christmas present....the thing is an animal and I couldnt be happier, although i would have preferred it be a bit thicker so i could put a convex edge on it without worrying about chipping. Thanks everyone for your input
