Third Member Help

My third member has went out on my 1998 Tacoma (4x4, SR5, XTRA Cab, 4cyl), and the diff code is B04A (4.56'' gears). The third member housing no longer has the clearance to rebuild with new pinion and ring gear.

I am having trouble finding a replacement third member assembly online with that exact code (B04A). Is it possible to swap the third member with another 8'' diff that Toyota offered? I mainly use my truck for driving back and forth to work, and very minimal off road use. I just need something that is suitable sub and that is ready to install into the rear axle. Thank you!

Welcome to TW. The rear 3rd member is compatible with all 1st and 2nd Tacomas (1995.5 - 2015), so you have a pretty wide range of years to look for a matching gear ratio. Be sure you're looking for the correct type (locker vs. no locker).

As mentioned above, East Coast Gear Supply is probably the "easiest" way to get exactly what you need and just drop it in, but it's not cheap.
