Has anybody else use the tailgate locking hinges to tie down cargo? Is it safe to do so?

I have, they seem to do the job. If you're carrying something heavy that could slide out, I would maybe the the lower bed tie downs, and use 2 straps diagonally to the plastic bed hooks, or to the tailgate hooks.

yeah ive used that location, if it holds your tailgate from opening with a full load in your bed, it should hold something large, but i would still do a multi point tie down with those large heavy items, don't use that rear point alone.
