TMPS - Help!

A month ago I bought a new 2020 SR with the standard steel wheels. My SR is MGM and I looked at a couple hundred pictures on the forum on MGM trucks with different wheels and overall I liked the SR5 Alloy wheel the best, also money is a big factor. So today I checked Facebook Marketplace and someone 15 minutes from my house has a set of SR5 Alloy wheels with some Toyo tires and no TMPS for $400 that he took off his 2019 SR5. I met him and bought the wheels/tires. Drove to my tire store to change out my tires to the SR5 wheels with my TMPS and then mouth the Toyo tires on my steel wheels so I could sell them. My TMPS will not work on the alloy wheels. My senors are at an angle and they hit the wheel before they can be tighten enough to seal. The shop guys showed me. They said I need a straight sensor. So I come home and look on Rock Auto. I guess I can sell my sensors but could use some help on what to buy that will work. Also I see about relearn, does that work?

 

Have UR tire shop install rubber stems

That’s what I did to get the wheels mounted but I want the atMPS to work.

 

Just make sure you pick ones for alloy wheels (read description) and some state no programming and some need programming. Something your tire shop should be able to do.

 

The tire shop might refuse to do this. Legally they are not supposed to disable the TPMS since it is a "safety feature".

IwillTaco, you are right. TPMS.com is the place to buy from. Best price anywhere. 42607-06030 is the right number and I wish I had never got the ones from the car parts store, they don’t work.

 

Your tire shop should carry TPMS sensors. We usually charge $45/tire for sensors. Plus it’s a selling point to keep the old sensors in your old wheels.

A lot of times a company has a brand they prefer so they can reset it if you ever have the need. Also on your old wheels with the sensors in them, store them 50-75ft away from where you park your truck or your truck will try and sync the old sensors again

Replace the sensors with some that work. You're talking about $100-$200 every 7-10 years. You'll have to skip 1 or 2 meals each year at McDonalds to cover the cost. They are on Amazon for $20-$25 each and if you'd had them before hand there would have been no charge to get them installed. You're looking at $10-$20 per tire for installation now.

 

Hopefully the one I have on order from TPMS.com are the right ones. This will be my second go around.

 

I just today, November 21 had new trd alloys installed on my new 2021 SR. It came with steelies. The tech at the tire shop did the 180 turn and
the OEM sensors worked just fine. As soon as I started the engine, the light went out. I just need to warn any tech that does later work about the
position of the sensor in the wheel and have him break the tire bead opposite the sensors. This little trick saved 100's of bucks.

 

I talked to my guys about doing that and they convinced me that they would get broke next time it was broke down. I should have made them do that. I would have saved a lot of money.
