I have a friend who owns a shop. Neither of us have ever done gearing before but we want to give it a go.

Other than general tools you would find in a shop, are there any specialty tools that are needed when changing diff gearing?

Ones I can think of off the top of my head:

    Dial Indicator
Lever-type Dial Indicator (or Lever attachment for regular dial indicator)(needed for front clamshell diff)
    Magnetic Base (for dial indicator)
    Dial Caliper or Micrometer
    Bearing Splitter a.k.a. Bearing Separator
    Two-jaw Gear (bearing) Puller
    Shop press
Cups to press the bearings onto the carrier & pinion (drawing a blank on what they're called)(sections of pipe or tubing can work also)
    Case Spreader
