towing power

I have the 2.7 liter 4 cylinder and was wondering what anyone else pulls with theirs.

 

Your tow rating is 3500 lbs.

With my 04, 2.7L 5 speed, I had little to no trouble pulling a 6 x 12 enclosed motorcycle trailer, and a 20' SeaRay. When I had a problem was after buying my 06 JayFeather 197 travel trailer. (It was longer, wider, and taller than the motorcycle trailer, and I believe that the increased air resistance is what killed the 2.7L's ability to tow it safely.

Boat, motorcycle or utility trailer, or pop-up camper, you should be fine with your truck. Just stick within the tow ratings, and read through the towing bible in the technical chat section for more information.

 

Maverick, how was your MPG and steering characteristics with the SeaRay and the bike trailer? At what speeds... ect.

 

I never really towed the boat or bike trailer regularly enough with that truck to get a good track of the mileage. I've towed nearly everything at nearly every possible speed. The rough mileage numbers are from highway trips.

The travel trailer on the 07 cuts the mileage roughly in half, so from 20.5 to about 11 at best. The searay on the 07 drop 20.5 to about 17, and the bike trailer is about 15 on the 07.

I would expect that the mileage on the 04 with the boat and motorcycle trailer were about the same, but I can not completely confirm that.

The boat trailer needed brakes, as it is a fairly heavy boat and trailer, and tended to over power the truck's service brakes. The motorcycle trailer had brakes, and I never felt that it was pushing the truck. Steering was always pretty good, and for the most part will allways be as long as you set the truck and trailer up correctly to eachother. Maybe just a little squirly with the boat as it is slightly more difficult to get a good load balance with a boat trailer.
