No problem. I'm learning this as we go and I go out to my truck to test things.

I think it has more to do with the ability of the Firmware in the truck ECU rather than the Techstream software. As by the image of the Techstream the software appears to have the ability to do 5 sensors. It is probably the truck that will not allow the 5th sensor.

Plus they use the same Techstream Software to administer vehicles that still have 5 sensors installed such as my wifes 2010 Highlander.

@Jimmyh - depends on the truck. My 2015 can only do 4.

My 2015 DCSB SR5 came with steel wheels and only 4 sensors. I bought 2 sets of 4 (so that I'd have a 5th for a full size spare) second hand alloy Tacoma rims. When the tire shop went to install my sensors, Initially I thought I could use the original TPMS sensors but they weren't compatible with alloys so I had to buy 5 new sensors and the shop was able to program all 5. I think they did have some difficulty initially but I don't remember why or how they did get them all programmed.

Mini-necro'ing this thread because it remains relevant for me as a 2014 4.0L MT TRD OR driver --

Recently changed out the factory steel no-TPMS full-sized spare to a matching aluminum alloy 16" wheel/tire, WITH an aftermarket TPMS sensor in it, so that I can start a 5-wheel tire rotation program on my new set of Yokohama tires.

I know the aftermarket TPMS is compatible with the truck because the other 4 active wheels have the same sensor in them. I programmed those with an Autel MS906TS bi-directional scan tool.

When I try to go and program the 5th / spare sensor now (which shows up in the Autel tool quite clearly,) for some reason I can't get it to "take". I tried reprogramming all 5 wheels according to the instructions but it only stores /learns the 4 active wheels in the ECU.

I wonder whether there really is available 5th/spare TPMS slot in my 2014 ECU, or if for some reason Toyota locked it out / disabled it.

    Later model 2nd gens won’t take a 5th sensor.
We confirmed this in post #18.

As far as we know, no one has figured out how to unlock the 5 sensor spot.
    Or if you even can?

It maybe “gone” and not even available to unlock.

At least using TechStream on my 2015, the 5th slot LOOKs open and I’m allowed to program it, but nothing sticks.

You will likely need to just do your rotation and then reprogram slots 1-4 with the appropriate wheel/TPMS ids.

    Thanks for re-clarifying it.

Yes, I see the 5th slot in the Autel scantool, it allows me to trigger & attempt to program the 5th slot, but it doesn't take. It must be locked out in the 2.5-gen TPMS ECU itself.

    Oh well.
