Does anyone else have the annoying problem of the TPMS light going on anytime the temperature drops below freezing due to the air in the tires contracting from the cold?

Many folks experience this, in fact this situation just happened to myself this morning.

The cause is when the ambient temperature starts falling, the internal pressure in the tire is affected. Most TPMS systems will illuminate the light when the psi in the tire is 20% below the door placard recommendation. This is not due to the air escaping the tire, but rather compressing due to the colder temperatures, as you mentioned. Much the same way when a tire is hot and our stores inflate it to 4 psi over the recommended pressure (vehicles) with the intention that when the tire cools off and the air compresses, the tire will have the correct cold pressure in it.

Try filling the tire to the recommended cold inflation pressure first thing in the morning when the outside temperatures are cooler, this should help

In our trucks the light will come on when the pressure drops a certain amount below whatever it was when the system was initialized or reset.

Mine did the same thing a few weeks ago when it got below freezing. I just reset the TPMS and it's been fine ever since.
    Hope that helps
