Ive seen a bunch of posts in Gen 1 and 2 about this but wondered if Gen 3 had this issue much too.

Ive got the Trac off and CEL going now and suspect its the charcoal evap system that is jacked and will have to replace it. (Trac off light will turn on and off at exactly 32mph over and over again)

For $400 bucks or so a pop Im hoping this will fix it, and I dont waste my time and money. Its out of warranty. And it looks like a pain to get out from between the bed and frame.

Ive cleared the alarm several times over the last 3 months but it always comes back on foggy days immediately during startup.

Any success stories for Gen 3 trucks with this issue?

Oh yeah, the alarms are always consistently the same ones, P2402, P2401, P2419, P043F, P043E.

I have had these same codes on my old Corolla over the years and now with my Tacoma. I clear them and then they will randomly come back sometimes days later, sometimes years. I recently even got Techstream and ran the evap pump test and it passed fine. I just cleared the code again 3 days ago.

Now I do have a bad habit of topping up the tank when filling. It is possible this is the problem so I am now not topping up or rounding off anymore. I will see if that changes anything.

That is a evap canister list of codes. There's little you can do to patch it, it needs to be replaced.

It's not that bad to replace, just awkward without a hoist.

Its crazy that through 20+ years of making these they havent changed the design enough to fix the failure. Never had another vehicle have a problem with this stuff.

    $316.04 from some stores. 08/2015 - 11/2017 build date.

Actually another one comes up for 04/2017 - 11/2017 build date. This one says Mexico spec.
    $319.09

I guess the not Mexico one would be the ticket. Or would one from a newer truck be more reliable??? 2018 - 2021

I wish I could find out if the later models are better or If I should just use the year for mine. No info that I can find on it. Ill probably change out the stuff soon. Ever since this has popped up my gas mileage went down from 19 to 14.5 mpg.

This write up helps to understand what it does and why it maybe doesnt show up so much in hot weather. It wont do the test if the temps are not less than 95 degrees. The summers here will have temps like that late into the night and might defer the test for a long time. Aside from the pump drying out quicker if its got gas in it.

    Good info...

I have the same issue on my 3rd gen, the codes come up every 3 days yoi delete them so i had my gas cap changed as well as the charcoal canister and the truck still pulls up the codes. Its frustrating taking it to the dealer because they test it and they say its the canister bit the canister is brand new. These guys dont know what they are doing and want to charge me $990 for a diagnostic but im not paying them anymore because i get no diagnostics or solutions from them.
