I am not sure if this has been posted yet? I searched and did not find anything. I have an access cab and have been thinking about joining Uber as a driver. For some reason, no one in email Uber support can tell me if access cabs will work. They want me to come in for an inspection.

I would prefer a double cab and might look into trading mine in for one, if the inspection does not go through. Of course double cabs have more room for passengers and such.

If anyone has gone through the inspection with an access cab and no luck, since Uber wants four doors, please tell me so I don't go waste my time with this.

    Thank you.

I guess the obvious question is why would you buy another truck just to drive for Uber? Is the money REALLY that good? Not being disrespectful, just curious.

With a truck, uber would not be the most profitable way to work.

And I believe you need a legit 4door to join.

I have read buying a car specifically for uber is a waste of money. After factoring in gas and insurance on the car (not even counting wear and tear/depreciation) you usually make 10$ an hour.

I have seen people say they make 20+ some nights (in very big/busy areas) when they use a new prius but I wouldnt expect the numbers uber quotes you at.

However, if you are between getting a hybrid and a gas engine (lets say in a civic), uber may be a way to recoup some of the added cost of the hybrid. HOWEVER, that is assuming youre buying a new car regardless of joining uber.

A close friend of mine drives for uber in Virginia and he makes good money, but he does know the area so he can be like a cab driver to the tourist and that helps his tips.

well i heard you can make anywhere from 20 to 35 per hour. they do take a % of each fare. but if you have like 6 fares at an average price of 55, that is good money. Thank you all for your input on this.

yeah you need a legit four door. I test drove a ford focus ST the other day and it was stellar. you can pick one up for about 1/2 the price of a new tacoma. Uber in a truck is a no go.

just wondering if you have first hand experience on this or have friends that have trucks or access cabs? what about double cabs? gathering all details and researching. they do have an suv section on their site among others, so im thinking as long as its a four door truck? and still wondering why uber support cannot tell me directly but still invite me for an inspection, when i clearly explained the type of access cab i have.

Just googling this, I've read that it's questionable for you to use a FS double cab truck but it may be approved. I would say that they will not approve an access cab because it doesn't offer enough room for more than a single passenger. Most uber drivers where I am have a prius for the MPG's

Good luck getting an average fare of $55. From what I have read average fare in major metro areas is between $20-30 ( and that is top end). Then take 10% off that for GST and then another %20 to uber and you can see its not as profitable as you believe.

    Check this link out: http://uberpeople.net/threads/whats-your-average-fare.1174/

55 bucks a fare?!? I don't think many uber passengers want you to drive them to different states. I took an uber this past weekend 15 miles through Denver with 4 passengers and it was only 10 bucks.

6 fares in an hour? That's 10 minutes per fare. 5 minutes to pick up 5 minutes to drop off and the pick ups and drop offs must line up perfectly. That's pretty inflated and not realistic imo. :p

You'll get one call that will take you 10 minutes away from the next. And that second call will be across town and back and etc.

I've read a few forums with uber drivers, including reddit. Are there peak hours/days/times of year for uber? Yes. Is it constantly good income not so much.

Maybe if you have nothing better to do. I'm not sure of any requirement of x amount of hours though.

However I have toyed with the idea of joining uber cause I have a 12 civic. But overall ID rather use my time with my gf or relaxing.

I agree. Any gig where you use your own vehicle will lower your dollar per hour amount. They have us now thinking $3.00 a gallon gas is cheap. Stand by, it will go back up. Around town, stop and go, I wouldn't use a Tacoma.
