under seat sub help

So I'd love some help from people with more car audio experience. I have a 13 access cab (non jbl) and would like to improve the sound quality, but I want to keep the stock hu. I'm thinking of adding an under seat sub like a kicker hideaway our a Kenwood unit.

My question is do I need to install a line converter http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B002T4XR...UTF8&colid=1PXSUNS4UCP5Z&coliid=IZEIP5JBYS3W3) or is that not needed? Also does anyone recommend a certain underwear sub?

Or is my money better spent just upgrading the factory did speakers (why Toyota stopped putting real rear speakers in the access cab still annoys me).

I know I should upgrade the hu for greatly improved sound but I don't want that.

 

I have a '14 AC and did pretty much what you want. I did keep my stock HU but did upgrade my speakers and install a Clarion mini-amp under my drivers seat. It made the sound system a new feature. There was no need to install a line converter at all. I did a PNP setup at my HU plug-in so it can be easily put back to stock (but not while I own it). Good luck on your choice. Be advised: you will need to upgrade the stock speakers. A amp will totally beat the crap out of them.

 

Thanks for the reply weendoggy. So you installed a mini amp upgraded speakers and a sub? That's what I'm thinking I'll need to do. Anyway you could list what components you used, since your happy with them?

 

I added a Kenwood KSC-SW11 to my 2009 access cab a few months ago. I had previously changed out the stereo, soI connected my KSC-SW11 to the sub-outs on the stereo. It does come with an adapter cable to tie into the speaker wiring if you choose to hook it up that way instead. I installed mine between the rear seats, rather than under a front seat. There are a few pictures of my install here. I'm happy with it. It doesn't rattle the windows, but it sounds as good (or better) than the factory installed subs in my other vehicles.
