This is the backside of the upper console on my ‘16 TRD OR access cab. I’ve pulled the plug on the diff lock switch, showing:
-black, black/white, red/white and tan wires.

I assume black is ground and tan is my 12v. Not sure which one is the dimmer and which one is the power to engage the diff?

Need to tap into the dimmer as I’ve added a front locker switch right next to it.

Best to get the wiring diagram for that year before meddling with any of the wires. A voltmeter will confirm your suspicions. Sorry I don't have a 3rd gen so I am not sure. Looks like the wire colors have changed significantly from the 2nd gens for the dimmer circuit.

Used the volt meter, brown is power, black is ground as suspected. Red/white is power to the diff and blk/white voltage went up down when I was dimming my lights. Seemed pretty straight forward.
Hooked up an AOB after market switch to replace the stock switch just so it would match the AOB switch for the front locker that I have next to it.
Now the rear diff won't engage in 4L and my back lights on the lower dash (where the temp/fan controls are) are no longer working. No fuses blown. Dammit!
