USB source audio clipping

No other source does this, even BT Audio, just USB, regardless of if it's music playing from a thumb drive, hard drive or iPod. If it's hard mounted via USB, there is detectable clipping. Some audio files do it more then others. Is there a known issue with this?

I am running a JBL stereo system by the way.

could be that the USB plug is bad or has a loose connection. You said USB sticks are worse when hard mounted. Maybe due to the weight or there is a bent pin in the USB slot.

I have been wondering if it actually is the slot itself. I wonder if there is a factory replacement piece for the actual slot. It never used to do this until 6 months into ownership, and since then it has been total hit or miss on clipping.

 

I'd put money on it being the USB slot if more than one device has the same issue.

I'm sure there is a part number you can swap it out with. Take a look in the USB slot and look at one on your computer. Might be something obvious like dirt in there causing a bad connection. Try some compressed air to clean it out, jiggle the USB drive and see if you can make it crackle.

 

Good idea. I may try the compressed air route. I do tend to off-road a lot. I did manage to get it out and look at it. I even went as far as reflowing solder on the actual circuit board itself. Seemed to have helped but it's still mildly there. I'll try some air right now.

 

If worse comes to worse I can always try a replacement!
