Just bought a used ARE cap super cheap off of Craigslist. Its beat to hell but I couldn't beat the price. Color doesn't match either, but I think the impulse red looks pretty good with the black cap. Gonna look a lot better when I finally paint the wheels black.

Got it home and went to wire up the center brake light on the cap. So this is what the previous owner had left me for wiring the brake light and the interior dome light. I put the wire nuts when I drove it home.

I went to wire it in this morning. Pulled the driver's side taillight and tapped directly to the brake wire at the brake light and the ground wire at that spot. Just have everything wire-nutted together to test it.

So I turn the truck on, step on the brake and the driver's side and cap brake light don't work. Passenger side works fine. Taillights on both sides work fine. OK so I decided to pull the cap wiring and just re-connect everything in the taillight assembly so I have 2 working brake lights, but the driver's side brake light is still out.

I'm not a big electrical guy, but what did I do wrong? And how do i fix my mess before getting pulled over? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may or may not have a blown light.

Grab a 9V battery and do a quick test to the lights, ensure that they're working properly.

Can't say that I know that you tapped into the correct wires because I have a 1st gen but I know that mine had a blown light and had to go through this as well.

Is there an interior light that you might be triggering instead?

is it an LED style or halogen style?

I found a cheap replacement for a 15.6" (I think is standard) led bar after I remade mine using breadboard and my own LEDs

It's an LED brake light bar. Once I realized it was a blown bulb for the brake light I figured I'd follow the basics and trace the wire back to the center brake light. And of course the ground had a break in it. So spliced that back together and everything working now.

Just got to find a replacement dome light for the cap now. The one that's in there is all busted to pieces.
