Utah - Inspiration Point Results

Well, as I've always heard, the view on the way up and at the top is great. I'm sure Jan has some as well. My panoramic ones didn't turn out so well, so I couldn't include those.

The good: The trail is very easy and doable with out 4x4. Very little chance of any sort of paint damage, etc. Roads are fairly wide, although does drop into single vehicle widths often, but plenty of places to let others through. The view is great and offers a few different views. About half way up, you get some great scenes of the leaves changing, and at the top, you get some great views of the cities and lakes.

The bad: The trail is just too easy. I think several people would probably enjoy it for a nice ride, but it really doesn't offer any sort of driving challenge. A few minor rocky places (large gravel) and a few washout bumps, but it really offered nothing as far as driving goes (a sedan and mini van made made it up). It is very steep though, not causing issues, but leaving me wishing I had the money to re gear my diff. It was also kinda busy on the top.

As far as it being worth a trail to take a group up to... I dont know. Sure its a nice view and all that, but for the hour drive from Salt Lake, then the hour drive to the top, probably not.

I dont regret going up to see it, but its not really something I'm going to think about for a trail suggestion. For someone thats into nature and hiking, ok, but not an offroad type adventure. The trail is straight forward enough that a guide isn't needed, or even a partner vehicle for that matter. There were quite a bit of 4 wheeler, motorcycle, and hiking trails.


On a side note, if you go up, please make sure you're very careful about brakes on the way back down (and make sure your fluid isn't old). I ended up boiling my brake fluid by the time I got near the bottom, which was quite the "oh shit" moment when the pedal nearly hit the floor.

The view was nice, but the drive wasn't particularly inspiring, no pun intended.

As I remarked to Greg, there are several (more challenging) trails less than 30 mins away, which could make the hour long trip North more worthwhile.
