Depending on how heavy you tow I'd look at 7.3 powerstrokes or 5.9 cummins. If not too heavy the ford v10 is nice and also the 8.1 or 6.0 Chevy.

We tow mainly off roads and prerunners. But would i get more life out of a v8 then a v6?

I'd like a hybrid or plug-in. but I don't tow. If I did tow, it would be a light weight fishing skiff, or small pleasure boat.

If your towing an actually truck, 4k and up. I would not want a v6. The v6 vs v8 is very vague. Which v8s and v6s? To me it really comes down to gas or diesel when picking a tow rig. You need to look at what your going to be towing weight wise, how far, and where. Most of that will narrow down what engine you are going to use.
