    Hello everyone,

I am currently an engineer for a major truck manufacturer working in their powertrain group. Working in the powertrain group means I get to play with the company diagnostic programs and they are pretty cool. I can change all sorts of parameters and settings in these trucks and I was wondering if anyone has had anything like that for our Toyota's. I know its highly improbably but thought Id see if anyone has had similar experiences because it really cool tech in my opinion.

Yes, there are different levels of customization you can do w/ these trucks but none (yet) offer the high level of customization you likely seek (changing AFR targets, fueling, timing, etc,).

Carista - a OBD2 device that you can connect to your phone via Bluetooth and read all the available PIDs from to measure parameters of your truck. You can also use the Carista app to change some basic things such as number of blinks on turn signals, beeps for seatbelts, how many doors unlock on first touch/click, etc., Nothing earth shattering but I made a few mods that suited me well. To simply read / log data you can use the Torque app (Android) or OBD Fusion (iOS) which will easily connect to the Carista (or any comparable OBD2 bluetooth device).

OVTune - Not a DIY solution as you're accustomed to, but in buying this tune you are getting a deep rewrite of the stock code that will improve throttle response, keep the engine in the power band better, reduce lag, fix messy ignition logic, and help with shifting if you're an AT owner. At this time the ECU is too complex and hasn't been around long enough for a good aftermarket DIY handheld or anything, but OVTune has done a great job providing a solution that radically improved the drivability and power delivery of the truck. When you drop $800 on this, you do get a Tactrix device which also connects to OBD2 to interact w/ your ECU. Aside from the tune, you can also use this device along with a Windows computer to use Techstream (required subscription) which is the same software Toyota techs use to measure all variety of parameters from all sensors, can do active tests on anything from ignition to shifting O2 sensors, etc., but doesn't natively let you CHANGE parameters.
