Water storage

What are you guys using for water storage?
I bought a Wavian Jerry can style water jug thinking it would be the beez knees since their gas cans are really good. The can itself is well made and seems pretty stout but the spigot connection is terrible, it unscrews itself when you try to open/close it, and I've had it randomly pop off on it's own too. We basically have to unscrew it and put the plug back in if we're not right next to the thing or chance loosing all of our H2O.

MSR 10L Dromedary. I just toss it on the floor board in the back.

 

Tan Military Water Jerry. Fill it with the house(chlorinated water), drain and refill every few months when I remember to keep it potable.

I also use a smaller 2.5 gallon one from the same company. You can get their stuff at REI and even Walmart too. At Walmart the cardboard wrapper will be the Ozark Trail house brand but the fine print and item itself say Reliance.

 

I like the spigot on that, but is the vent hole just a friction plug?

 

Yeah, that big one I have is just a friction plug. I was a little apprehensive about it at first but it’s been fine in my use. Accidentally tipped over and it didn’t leak. I keep it bungied upright to the side rail when traveling. They do have other models with screw on vent covers.

I saw those exact ones at REI yesterday, Really heavy duty and they look great for storage, but not for usage. I'm looking for something with a spigot on it just to make stuff easier for camping.

I’ve also used a couple of these 5.3 gallon water storage cubes with good results. They can be folded pretty flat when empty, which is nice. I’d also recommend a square-ish milk crate to give it strength and structure. These have a pretty nice spigot, however they have no vent so the water flow can be a little slow. But since they are not hard sided you can easily press on the cube to improve output.

Mine are used at camp and to fill my waterport.

I can let you know one to avoid but no link. Walmart or Academy sells those blue 5 gal square looking jugs with a white spigot. Garbage and prone to cracking has been my experience.

Same thing for me. I bring a couple of em hunting or camping. Never had a problem.

 

Grainger offers a decent selection https://www.grainger.com/search?searchQuery=five+gallon+water+can&searchBar=true of five gallon water cans from Wavian, Scepter and Ability One. The latter two mfrs provide these for our military. I have the Ability One version which was a bit cheaper than the Scepter and its been fine but not quite of the same quality as my Scepter MFC's. This guy https://jagmte.com/collections/scepter-mwc-accessories does a good job with accessories - his water dispenser works well with the Ability One. I also found a three gallon Primo water cooler bottle a few years back that we refill at home and sometimes carry. It works pretty well for the coffee pot and after meal cleanup. If it develops a crack or gets grundgy, just exchange it for around $3 - the lid can be popped off and back on without leaking problems as long as the seal remains intact.

I'm surprised grainger wasn't more expensive on the scepters, usually they mark everything up 9000% I'll probably order through them since we get free shipping.
