    Between invoice and MSRP
I read up on it and I still need a bit of clarity. Excuse my ignorance but I really need to understand the difference between the two before I talk to the stealership

MSRP is what Toyota suggests the sticker price should be before Tax, Title and Licencing (TTL). It's not written in stone but is a common reference to what the typical price is listed in all regions. Certain fees in TTL are not negotiable unless you buy in a state that has zero retail tax.

Remember also that demand dictates market (price) so if a dealership is moving a lot of trucks at MSRP or may have a lot of overhead, you might not get the lowest price possible. Look at the end of the month for a dealer that has a lot of inventory available before the next allotment rolls in. Cars on the lot require space, insurance premiums, advertising dollars and sometimes free labor if a recall or stop sale happens (like the VW diesels). This eats into profit so they need to move the cars on site first.

Toyota ta also doesn't offer a lot of dealer incentives either to help negotiate down MSRP to dealer cost to your advantage. Remember the dealership has to make a profit to stay in business.

Sounds good to me but why Saturday morning and Friday night. I thought it was best to negotiate towards the end of the month

I hit the dealer before they closed on Friday night, did a quick deal then came back Saturday and got a little more off. Worked pretty good for me.

It really depends on your market.

Here in CO I paid about $2700 under MSRP after negotiating via email with (I think) 7 dealerships. I've heard that in SOME markets though, like southern Cali, you're lucky to get one at MSRP.

I find the best deal for price is to go in with a check in hand so the financing is already worked out and you ask for an out the door price to include TTL. There's no dicking around financing points, cash down for better interest rates or lower payments.

In the end it boils down to what's the best price you're comfortable paying for the truck you want. If they can do that for you it's a good deal regardless of price paid.

Mine was 36127 and dealed it down to 34 even in mid March, in SW Missouri. It was a good deal at the time.

Isn't it funny how the average person has such disdain for this? Yet each of us shows up to work every day with the expectation that we will be paid for our effort. I wonder how we would feel if we were met at the door each day with a dozen people stating that we don't deserve to make a living today? :notsure:

My dad was an independent car dealer for 31 years. We had some hard times a lot when I was a kid, but we always made it by. Car dealing is a tough business.

Very true, Hell California in general, I got mine at MSRP but most trucks I've seen in the Bay Area have anywhere from a 1-3k dealer markup off from the jump..
