Which speaker?

Upgrading Gabreile's speakers and needed opinions on either Boston Acoustics or JL audio

The Bostons will be SL95's
The JL's TR690Txi

 

Only your ears can decide which is better. To subjective. As far as quality/reliabitly goes....either is fine.

The install will have a bigger factor on sound than the speakers themselves. Do it right and they will sound awesome.

 

Make sure you absorb the backwave of the speaker as well.

I personally do not care for the JL sets, I really dislike the tweeters. Out of the two I would do the Boston's

Thats what ive heard about the JL's, and i sound deadened the outer and inner of the door. Its just hard to really hear what the speaker will sound like at the store, i dont want the tweets to be to high

 

From my experience JL = more bass and Boston = more highs and mids....at least that is what I have found. Boston's just dont seem to carry much bass at all.

 

I have tried them both in the past. JL hasn't been making components for very long. I had JL evolutions in my old car and didn't care for then too much. Boston Acoustic makes a "purer" speaker. If that means anything. The have really great tweeters.

Although I went Alpine this time just to keep consistent through out my truck. I have the Type S components in the doors and am pretty happy with them. Especially for the cost. Between boston and JL... Boston all the way.

 

agree with the Type S they sound great in my tacoma and i only put them on my from doors acces cab later on on the back

but now im getting a new stereo CDA-6881 something like that so i could connect my ipod

 

i dont think im going to be able to do either one right now anyways or go with something cheaper thanks guys for your input

 

Burg I think (all my personal opinion) The best bang for the buck is the pioneer TS-C720PRS or the Alpine Pro series. The tweeters are not high at all and are designed VERY well. They are around $200-300 i think, and you can use live.com to get around 10% from ebay purchases. Just throwing this out there!

 

JL is an awesome brand. I'm a firm supporter of them and invested lots of money in their equipment before.


Now, the truth. The JL 690's suck. They're a three way speaker (IIRC) and they have WAYYYYY too much tweet in them. Get yourself a set of TR650's. Thats what I run. Along with a decent set of tweets you'll be happy.

The numbers on the Boston Acoustics are better. I wouldn't install the JLs without a sub.

I have a set of BA Pro 60's in my Tacoma. The best speakers I have ever had in a vehicle.

Installing some sound deadner in the door will make a big improvement.
