Whistle in dash 2007

Hello All:

Brand new tacoma owner for about a week. Sorry if this has been posted before, but I did a search and did not find anything.

I have a 2007 standard cab and when I am going 70+ I hear a high whistle comming from the dash. I have tried to roll down the windows and try different things with the air and still happens. It does not happen all the time but it is greater than 70%.

There is a cabin-air filter in your glove box area that may not be installed correctly.

Also, as the post above states, your windshield may not be sealed correctly. I would note whether the noise disappears when you are driving in the rain (seeping water may plug the whistle hole) If true...viola, you found it.

I've read about a fix for the noise your describing. You get the rubber stipping used to hold a household window sceen to the frame, (home depot) and push it into the open notch on the outside of your truck windsheild stripping. If you look at your windsheild stripping there is about a 1/8 th inch gap that this screen stripping will fit into . I've read that this will stop the noise.

 

Thanks for the responses. I took it to the dealer and had it fixed. It was the windshield.

I dropped it off at the dealer and got a 2007 Corolla as a loaner. It had 86 miles on it. I drove to work the next day just fine. I went to go to lunch and it did not start at all. I had to get a ride to the dealer to pick up my truck and the loaner had to be towed. They also told me this is the second time this has happened to this car. So far in two weeks I have had two 07 Toyotas and they both have had issues.

 

what did they do to fix it ? cuz mine does the same thing

 

When my truck was at teh dealer they let me have an 07 Camry as a loaner. it had about 5k miles on it. One morning it was lightly raining and on the way to work i noticed the "anti-lock brake" light was on. i wondered if it was just a short or if the ABS was actually out. Obviously i needed to test this so slammed on brakes and they locked up and i just slid down the road. Then later that day when i left work for lunch the light was off and i slammed on the brakes and they worked fine. not very encouraging for a car with under 6k miles. Hopefully Toyota is not starting to slip...

Actually, I would have done the same thing. It is possible that the control module got some moisture in it and it shorted out temporarily. That happened on my old Acura Legend twice.

 

That would be a serious design flaw considering that you need ABS the most in bad weather conditions. it really bothered me that something like that would go bad on such a new vehicle. the beamer was 17 years old and the ABS still worked great, i just assumed it was one of those bullet proof options considering how long it lasted on my old car

 

I gotta laugh, but I sure am glad I don't drive on the same roads as you do.

 

Yeah I know a BUNCH of dealers use vehicles that have been wrecked and repaired for "loaners". That may have been one of them.

I drove a Oldsmobile Intrigue that kept loosing the ABS randomly. It would get cold and the contacts for the power wouldn't connect.

Just be glad that you didn't really need it!

 

Do you know a better way to test if the ABS works? cause i sure dont. plus it wasn't my car or tires so i didnt care

 

Yeah, so why care if the ABS works? It's not your car.

 

Curiosity killed the idiot... Actually, i felt that i needed to know if it was funcitoning in case i caught myself in a "need to stop fast" situation. If it wasn't working i needed to know so i could pump the brake and not just slam it like i would if i knew i had abs. In reality i just wanted to see if i could make the car skid down the road.... and i could

 

I have the same whislte problem. Was it a quick fix at the dealer or was it out some time? I really cant afford my truck to be gone for very long due to school and work. I guess i can try the weatherstriping thing...

 

The truth comes out! That's precisely why I said I'm glad I don't drive on the same roads as you. With my luck I'd have been the guy right behind you when your brain cell wandered between noticing the ABS light was on and wanting to skid the car.

 

My does the same thing so I'm going try the stipping first ,cause I don't want to lose my new truck smell just yet.
