Wild-Top from Australia?

Has anyone else seen the advertisements for the Wild-Top from Australia? I see most of what they have are for Jeeps, but once you look into the pictures, etc. on their site they have their top installed on multiple manufacturers vehicles. I like the idea of it better than the fold down soft toppers. Has anyone ever seen something similar for Taco's in US?

Very curious since the boss\accountant\wife hates the look of a fiberglass topper and i want something to sleep under when going solo camping.

that's pretty cool probably just need to see how it mounts and give them the bed dimensions.

 

Probably have to do that soon, was kind of hoping someone else had a little experience and possibly had one, really like the looks(at least the marketing, LOL!!) of it so far.

 

If it were me I would still be looking into a hard shell that fits your needs better. Maybe something that has gullwing doors all the way around so it will open up like the WildTop does.

The only reason I point you that direction, is that the hardtop is going to outlast that soft material in a big way.
The WildTop’s sides slant so dramatically that it’s taking away from your interior space.

 

Why not a softopper .

 

Very valid point, not sure where my head was aside from NOT wanting to be at work, never thought of that aspect. Thank you for that nibble of wisdom. Although now i am thinking of building the frame DIY like the DIY GFC frame. I have some access to composite core material. Brain wander is what happens to me this time of year, too cold to do much outside here in Michigan, but i want to get so many things done, Brain is all over the place lately.

 

I like the soft toppers, i just would like to be able to put a kayak or my fishing pole tube(10" PVC pipe with caps on the end) on top of it. Soft topper isnt designed for that. If that makes sense.

 

There’s a rack that goes over the softopper . Some placed rtt on it. Would bump the price up though. But it sure looks good

Bumping this after I stumbled across the Wildtop website. It seems like a clever product, not as configurable as a Softopper but with the integrated rack rather than a 3rd party add on rack. Free shipping to the US they claim, but no fitment for 3rd gen shown. Though a 2nd gen dimensions aren’t far off, except for the tailgate fit.

 

3rd gen is on there. It’s the 60.5” short bed and long bed options under Tacoma.

Duh, thanks. But it’s weird they show both 60.5 and 61” bed lengths with the 2015 (2nd gen) shown under both lengths.

 

I just ordered one today. Seems like a good alternative to a softopper and rack. Their website is a little off with the years of the 3rd gen and the bed length is a bit odd, but I’ll cut them some slack since they’re Australian and don’t have tacos.

They are supposed to be in stock and ship out this Monday. I’ll write up a review once it arrives. Just sold the fiberglass topper yesterday and look forward to having the rack and cover for ski season.

I decided to order a Softopper as I really want easy access to an open bed. But I’ll be following this thread to see how these Wild-Tops work out.

 

Missing a few parts to mount it to the truck, but here it is.

 

Thanks for the pic. What’s your initial impression of build quality, welds, fit togetherness ( yep made that up), and the quality of the actual topper,material, stitching, etc?

Yes, thanks. I’ll watch this with interest, but pulled the trigger on a Softopper after deciding that I really wanted to be able to fold it quickly out of the way. It was delivered in less than a week and I installed it a few days ago. It looks good and works well, but the Wild-Top frame structure and top rack feature are still intriguing. So do keep us informed of quality, function etc. Thanks.
