Window hack?

Is there a hack to make the windows go up and down from the fob or even the app?

 

You’d probably have to add an aftermarket alarm system to do that

 

I have not seen that as a Customization. I know that some 4Runners trims have it and it can be enabled for other trims as a Customization.


Tacos are entry level trucks for Toyota. But for myself, I'm still dreaming of a power window mod that lets them work any time the Taco is unlocked. And of course, the holy grail would be a drop down rear window like the Tundras, 4Runners, and Sequoias.

 

Unfortunately rumor is that this feature will be discontinued from SUV's. It's gone on new Sequoia and also probably gone for new 4runner. New rear window slopes too much for glass to go into tailgate.

The Taco needs it. Had a few 4Runner rentals and that window is just wonderful.

That was my favorite feature on my old 4Runner. I'd be sad if furture Tacomas got it... no way I could justify trading in my truck.

 

It would give me deep thoughts, but I'm too content otherwise.

Back in 2001 I install a remote start to my 2001 Honda Civic and it had the ability to roll the window up and down all the way or by increment of 1inch.

 

Well this guy is old enough to remember having to manually hand crank them up and down, so I'm pretty content with being able to push a button on the door.

 

Now to get it to stop at the spot you want...

You don't have to be too old to remember hand cranks. I do miss them to some extent.

As noted above, being able to operate the windows with the door unlocked seems like a big, missed opportunity, esp if looking back to crank windows.

 

Not sure if that is a hack. I had a local alarm shop install them. It was a Viper brand that has alarm, remote start, windows up/down at 1” increments, trunk release, etc. There were no app 20 years ago. But you have the option to upgrade the key fob that has a small LCD screen that show if your car is on or off, door is lock or unlock, windows is open or close. I’m sure your local sound/alarm guy can do this for you. The car was total and I still have the key fob (somewhere in one of the cabinet), I’ll upload them as soon as I find it.

 

Things were just about perfect 20yrs ago. Just enough tech and economy that allowed stuff like that to happen.

The guy that was trying to hack the head unit and center stack said that he permanently bricked some. It was touchy work using Raspberry Pis. I know that even the ECU flashes are touchy AF due to the algorithm that Toyota uses. Heard similar stuff from very reputable tuners. They don't like play with them.

 

Could easily be done with an Arduino Serial CAN-BUS module. I've thought about designing it years ago for windows and other things but just haven't had time.

 

I'm "old enough" to remember hand cranks as well. And the fun of trying to roll down the passenger window at a stop light.

Hell, my first car was a 91 Wrangler with zip up windows that you had to unzip and tuck between the door and seat.

Progress is progress... measuring your current comforts by the discomforts of the past is not the way to improve or make progress in your life.

Otherwise, you should be happy with the CD player in your truck, as I'm sure you grew up with cassettes or worse.

My main ride was a 2dr Celebrity. Those spinnakers for doors were a beyotch, esp since the PO had it Ziebart'ed when new and got the shit on the window tracks. So, cranking got your exercise in for the day and then cleaning the shit streaks off the windows every so often. Fun times.
