Wiring a Custom Horn

I recently purchased a 4 sound programable car horn from boomblasters and I need some help wiring it. The horn operates by pressing buttons on a remote and not by pressing a button affixed to the vehicle itself.

I don’t want it to be directly connected to the battery as to not drain it, so what do I need to do? Do I need fuse taps? Relays? A switch?

I really appreciate whatever help I can get! (And I’m not sure if this is the right form to post in but I think it fits the best.

 

depends how you'd like it to function. I'd personally used a power wire directly to the battery with maybe a switch wired to ignition power to trigger a relay. Do you want to use the horn with the keys removed? Need some more info on how you want the accessory to work if we can inform you how to wire it up.

 

I don’t necessary want it to be active while the car is off because I’m scared that it’ll run down my battery.

And for your sentence on how you would do it is almost like a new language. If you have time and don’t mind I’d really appreciate if you could simplify that for me. And If I’m not providing enough information please let me know and I will reply with whatever you need.

 

Excuse the poorly drawn schematic but based on your response I would wire in a relay with the existing horn circuit, it is tied directly to the battery but should not draw any current when not in use. Worse case scenario you can wire the fused section to an ignition connected source so that you won't be "honking the horn" with nobody in the car. A relay coil only draws milliamps and would not drain the battery.

 

I forgot to ask, do you want the horn to work with the stock "horn" on the wheel? I had just assumed so.

 

well the horn operates off of a four button remote so I don’t think it’s possible for it to be tied into the stock horn.

 

Remote just closes the power circuit. Same as a horn button.

You can set it up however you want.

 

I would use an add a fuse to a circuit that turns on and off with ignition power like the radio. Just to keep it simple. Is it the wireless remote version?
