I remember getting rid of my old garmin when the phones became pretty good at navigation...recently had to get a new garmin bc my phone lost its gps mind and it was so much nicer to have the garmin, granted it took up extra space but not having to dedicate your phone was nice and the garmin was big visible and super accurate.

Mine has worked just fine all over the country, even in Canada.

Only issue I had was in South Detroit, because F.U.C.K South Detroit.... Phone wasn't any better, and neither were the DOT reroute directions and signs.

I didn't want nav but I did want leather and sunroof. Since Toyota only offers all or nothing packages I had no choice and figured might as well enjoy this forced luxury.

My personal experience. I use my phone when off-roading. But have home saved in my truck navigation. When it’s time to return and I have no cell service I switch to the truck and always get home. granted, I have a pretty good idea where I am and where to go. But it has helped a couple times.

I'll admit it's not the best, but hardly the worst navigation ever. On a road trip, my buddy was giving us the navigation and I'll be damned if he didn't get us turned around in the wrong direction every chance he could. Compared to that, the Toyota is on par with live satellite feed.

I'm assuming OP is referring to the Entune navigation? I've been using Apple Maps through CarPlay and that works great. I never really cared for the Entune navigation, so mostly used my phone. I also look over my route on Google Earth in advance, which I find helpful.

I’d prefer taking the long scenic route over google trying to tell me to backtrack to save 4 minutes
    Go slow enjoy the ride

Depends on my mood, some days it’s nice to get there when you do, and others its just fun to decrease that arrival time.

Download offline maps on Google Maps of area you're going and also check out Gaia GPS. Bring a physical map either way.

I actually met that imbecile in person when he still was in office. He really is one of the worst assholes I've ever met.

No you are not missing anything. It is a bit surprising as I have a 2017 OR with PT and I stop using my Nav over two years ago because it was doing the same thing as yours. I would have thought by now Toyota would have corrected this. Don’t feel too bad. My son just brought a 2020 Chevy camaro SS and in order for him to use the navigation system he has to pay a yearly fee. I just use my Apple phone and have it connected to my Entune system

2017 does it too. It wanted me to zig zag around town to go to a business that was 3 blocks straight down. Luckily I knew the area when I got close.

just last week, I was in downtown Portland trying to get to a location where I was unfamiliar with. It screwed me a couple times trying to get me to turn left where there was no left turn. Was a pain in the ass. I had to get there by luck.
