true but then again it is better to run diesel fuel through a diesel engine and use something techron in the gas to clean carbon buildup

    AGREED

I run Mobil synthetic, truck gets regular oil changes. I have no intention of dumping diesel in the engine. I thought it was an interesting concept, i was wondering if anyone had heard of it or tried it. I think it is an old school remedy to flush a high milage engine. Maybe when i reach 400.000 i'l flush the Tacoma engine, should be goods for another 400 then right LOL

You act like the engine is the only thing you have to worry about in order to make it to 400k...

FWIW, flushing an old engine can sometimes cause more damage than good. Gunk does build up in engines, ripping it all free and sending it through the engine can sometimes cause more damage and create clogs in vital areas.

It's true. Many of these replies are facetious, yet the post is pretty extraordinary.

Don't put deisel in a gas motor for any reason ever. It's not a good idea. If you doubt me try it. And please take video and post it.

fjrmurph: I feel for you. You got your share of idiot responses on this one. I have heard of people using kerosene as well as diesel fuel. It basically works as a solvent. Will it damage an engine? I would say yes it would if a particular engine had a lot of sludge built up in it. I doubt his engine has anything built up in it if he flushes it every oil change. Nor should any engine if it is maintained properly. Best thing one can do is regular oil changes as recommended by the manufacturer.
I actually tried it once in an S10 with a 2.8 liter. Put a quart of kerosene in with the oil an ran it 10 minutes or so. It didn't do any damage (that I am aware of) nor did it knock out any great amount of dirt as the engine probably wasn't that dirty to begin with. I would be afraid to try it in a known dirty engine as more than likely if a lot of dirt was knocked out it could clog the pickup for the oil pump as well as ot her areas one wouldn't want dirt getting into.

old school stuff. Guys have also used a quart of ATF in the oil pan to clean out sludge from the engine's internals.
using diesel to flush with every oil change is completely wasteful and as mentioned, there are far better, modern treatments which are better suited to this sort of thing - assuming they're actually needed.
