Broken Antenna screw stuck

Hey all, not sure if anyone has gone through this and found a simple way to extract a broken antenna screw stuck in the holder (if my terminology is correct ). Anyway, attached are some picks I took. The truck has been without an antenna for years now

I had the same thing happen. Car wash snapped it off. I used epoxy to fix the antenna to the stud. Came out fine. Maybe epoxy a bolt to it and give it a try?

 

Ok will do! Did you epoxy the same antenna or did you change the length?

 

I haven't taken mine off in a long time, but can't you just unscrew the nut and pull the whole assembly out? I had to do that on mine to re-align the Auto-extend function or whatever

 

I watched a YT video yesterday of someone trying to take it out by unscrewing but had no success and they ended having to drill their way in there.. I'm not the best hands on DIY dude, but if it can be unscrewed I will definitely give it a try! Thanks!!

 

Yeah it definitely wasn't too easy, but let some PB blaster soak around the threads over night and went after it with eventual success. Good Luck!

 

I used the original antenna. I cut off all but about 4” off. Bent it to use as a makeshift wrench.

Buy the correct tool makes it much easier.

Zip disc cut the badly seized ones off works for me.

 

Did you ever get it out? I've slowly drilled those in the center and then tapped a small flat head into the hole to spin it out. Sometimes you can get lucky...try spinning the drill in reverse after the hole is 1/4" deep. Sometimes it comes out super easy.

Worst case scenario you have to pull that harness out, it's easy to access with the glove box and radio out. Reach in after loosening the back half of the plastic fender liner.

 

Had this happen on my 95 tacoma going through a car wash. Thought to myself what are the chances it will happen twice....sure enough broke the antenna off my 02 as well lol

Currently waiting for titanium drill bits because the bits i had broke when I tried to make the hole..

 

You can't remove the mast portion that is down inside the fender, it is bolted to a bracket/brace. Also, those brass nuts are a bear, unless you are in a rust free zone.

If anyone has a spare rubber bezel, the portion that goes on the outside of the fender, I would buy it for a reasonable price. I somehow managed to lose mine in the course of my paint job.

 

In our part of the world they tend to just dry rot and crumble.

I just got pretty red silicone lathered it on works just fine function over form.

if I ever get a new antenna I would hope it comes with a new grommet

 

That bracket unbolted with one 10mm, and you can use a flat head and a small hammer to spin that retaining nut, or a rag and some pliers.

There is a special tool but it will come off without it.

I drilled mine out. Little bit of destruction goes a long way.

 

slightly related since you posted the parts diagram- is it possible to buy a power antenna still to retrofit in? Do you know the full part number? Not sure how these diagrams work as they only show half the number.
