condensation in my taillights?

wtf. never seen that on tacomas before. Bought a pair of 2011 oem tails from someone and have had them on for a while now. Almost a year I think. Today I went from my garage, which was cold to outside, which was still cold, but sunny. And after the truck being outside for 20-30 minutes, I noticed this....

It's in the same spot on both taillights. Any idea whats causing this? This is the first time I have ever noticed it. The taillights came with the bulbs all in it, so I didn't have to put any bulbs in it. I havent been hit or anything, so there's no cracks in them. I'm stumped.

 

Is this silicone ok to use?

Think I am going to try putting a bead of silicone around the gap around the taillights to see if that fixes it.

 

I would start by checking the gaskets on the bulb holders first. They can get worn if taken on/off multiple times. If there are no cracks that is the only way water is getting in them.
I would also dry up the moisture too.

 

I've seen the same on my driver's side.
The Tail Light assembly has been out a half dozen times.
The Bulb's been removed a couple.
I've yet to look into it, but suspect the seal between the front lens and back housing.
Once moisture is in the assembly, it may condensate and dissipate by temp changes and being hit by sunlight.
If I get around to looking at it, I'll post any pertinent info.

they may be vented somehow and if you seal them up they wont dry out

 

I suspect the same thing. I was going to get some silicone and seal that part this weekend. What's the best way to dry the taillights out? Should I bring them inside my house, or leave them outside in my garage?

 

I noticied some on mine the other day. I have never touched the taillights before, so not sure why it would get moisture in there. One of these days I'll get around to checking it out.

 

I just noticed this happening on my '09 rears

 

Their should be a little rubber elbow on the back end of the lights torwards the bottom, this is supposed to let condensation slip out. On cold mornings to warm afternoons it may happen to condensate. part of nature... You could try to seal this outlet off, may fix your problem!

 

Oh really? Is it like a lets water out, but not in kinda thing? Or just open?

 

I had the same problem with my previous lexus sc headlights. You'll have to do the oven trick to get it open and then polish it up real good and then reseal it real good.

 

Yeah they should be facing down so it can dripple out moisture and not catch water. But that should be the only way of moisture getting in or out

 

There is really nothing to worry about, unless they are full of water then I would get worried.
