Can someone please confirm whether or not the Maestro rr2 will read transmission temp on a second gen Tacoma? I know it will display some gauges temps etc but not even a phone call to idatalinks tech support could tell me if transmission temp was one of the available gauges for my 2012 Tacoma.

I currently have a scangauge 2, but I am changing out my old no nav/no screen factory stereo anyway, so if the maestro will display transmission temp specifically I can get rid of the scangauge and declutter my truck a little.

if the rr2 will not display it then I can save a few bucks and get a more basic SWC

Help from someone who has one installed on their gen2 would be much appreciated.

It does show the tranny temp on my 2015 but not sure how accurate. Feels like my tranny seems to be running a bit warmer than most peoples.

    Thanks for the info.
Good to know it’s there and atleast you can watch temperature relative to ‘normal’ with no heavy load.

Yea it seems normal most of the time but I watch it spike while offroading, which also would be normal I guess. I'm just paranoid about my truck so when I see high numbers I freak. All the other iDatalink data seems pretty accurate including tire pressures, mpg, etc. I'd guess my trans temp is also accurate. It's an awesome module and can't recommend it enough

    What kinda numbers you seeing?
My scangauge 2 normally shows similar to water temp on highway, no load. When towing trans temp runs higher than water.
I tow just under 5,000 pounds some what regularly.
It almost stays around 200 F towing in 4th gear.
I got scared in the 260 F range one time.
The idiot light didn’t come on but I sure tried to baby it back down.
I have never known if it is reading pre trans cooler or post.
I have tow package so it has factory cooler.

Haven't done any real towing but was seeing it around 210-220 while crawling around in the dirt in low gears for extended periods of time. Normally sits 160-180 on a hot day doing normal city/highway. Also have the factory tow package with cooler. 260 would scare the piss outta me haha. Ill have to set my gauges to read actual water temp to compare. Been using the temp gauge on cluster cause redundancy with gauges annoys my ocd.

There are two temp sensors in the trans, one in the pan which is the accurate reading of overall fluid temp, and one on the output of the torque converter.

The pan temp is the one used to put the truck into limp mode. Torque converter output temp you can see a change in 20*f within 10-20 seconds, while pan temps (because the fluid gets sent out to the coolers after the torque converter) only go up maybe 2-5 deg.

Ill see 205*F pan temps on 90*F ambient days towing 2 jetskis up a grade unlocked in 3rd gear. But once the torque converter locks back up we will come down to a normalish 180-190 on those hot days.

I do see the numbers fluctuate pretty quickly, getting hot and then cooling down rapidly if I stop or get on level ground. Makes me think the iDatalink is reading the torque converter numbers which makes me feel a bit better. Good to know!

I'd check out Crutchfield and see what they say. I honestly don't remember everything that it comes with, but it's quite a bit. My favorite was seeing my actual tire pressure in real time. Helped with airing down while off roading.

Lol, well that's fair too. Real time and avg mpg was another feature. And being able to see transmission temps. Uhhh, tons of other but I mostly just used those haha. And of course keeping my steering wheel controls.

I dont have the RR2, but I do have the RR and I can confirm that it does read trans temps (amongst others as well). It pulls the info for the gauges from the OBDII port, and the wiring diagram shows both the RR and the RR2 so I assume that both work in the same way. My head unit provides the Blutooth so I didn't need the RR2.
