my check engine light went on. Great ive had it for 40,000 miles and now something goes bad. i cant figure out what is wrong though, but i have noticed that when i start it up the rpms drop really low then go back up to a normal idle speed. also sometimes when im idleing for awhile itll drop really low. has anyone else had this problem? any suggestions would be great!

I'm willing to bet it throws an O2 sensor code. that is what mine did when it went.

Without the code(s) it's just all speculation. Get the code(s) pulled and post them up here and then you'll get better help.

Take your truck to Autozone or Checker and they can tell you the code. Should be relatively minor.

I asked a tech about check engine light once. He asked me if it still ran ok. I said yes, and he said "then dont worry about it."

Your so-called tech is an ass then. The CEL lit up for a reason, probably too lazy to figure out what's causing it.

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
Yeah CA sucks balls. Vato Zone can't do it anymore. I found a shop that only charges $10.

You're kidding... CA will not let you get a code checked at a parts store??? WTF???? Someone who made that law up owns a repair shop... That's fucked up.

I'm not an engine guy but mine started acting up around then and I had to replace the timing chain(or belt...whatever. Lol). The tech said that 80-90k is usually the wear limit of the timing chain on our tacos. That might not be the case but I'm just saying, for future reference you know.

Not in a 2.7L motor, we have a chain, and they never need replacing unless they break, and that never happens.
