Level up.

Please forgive me, I'm sure this has been covered before I just can't find what im looking for.

I have a 2019 dcsb TRD OR with 265/75r16 tires. I purchased a set of Bilstein 5100 shocks for the front to level it out. It appears that everyone else on planet earth that has put the 5100s on the front has also added either a block or leaf in the rear leaf pack. I'm not interested in lifting the rear of the truck at all.
According to my measurements the front of my truck is almost 2" lower in the front. So if I put the the clip in the 5th notch the truck should sit level, right? The only problem is every picture i can find is a 2"/1" front/rear lift and it looks level. So what gives? Do I need the 5th notch or 4th notch?
Is there anyone on the forum that has only lifted the front of their tacoma with the 5100 and what notch did you use and what have been your experiences?

Why would u only lift the front ? That’s like getting Only half the benefits of a lift . Might as well stay stock then .

 

I only want to level it out with the rear ride height. I dont see any benefit to lifting the rear higher than it already is.

 

He's probably just wanting the aesthetics of a leveled truck, not the increased off road performance of a fully lifted truck. If I'm correct, a front spacer would have been way easier and cheaper.

 

Get some new springs along with the 5100s. Leave the 5100s on lowest notch and allow the springs to lift the truck. I think a common combo here is 5100s on lowest notch with OME 887 springs. Raising the clip that high on the 5100s will preload the strut effectively making the ride harsher. I made that mistake with my GMC and the truck rode like complete trash.

 

Incorrect. I want both. While it's not a rock buggy or mud bogger I do use my truck for rough un maintained roads. What I've read is the spacer with cause damage to the 4600 at full droop. I guess i want aesthetics of a level truck and a better ride off road.

 

Set it on the 4th notch. Better to have a slight rake than to be nose high up front. I would also change out the rears to 5100s while you at it.

 

This truck does see a fair amount of off road driving.

 

I leveled with mine with a spacer and off roaded it for years. I'm on a full lift now though. If you're actually wanting performance, I'd go ahead and lift the whole thing. YMMV.

 

So far the rear suspension has done everything I wanted it to flawlessly, I just don't see what I will gain by lifting it 1" and making the suspension less flexible by adding another leaf in the back. The front suspension is lacking and where I want to focus my attention.

 

You could probably read up on the 2/1 lift (2" front, 1" rear), might give you some ideas on how how to proceed with only the front.

When I did mine, the difference was 1.1 inches between front and rear on stock sr5 coils.
The truck was pointing up after the front installation and cycling suspension. I went with 885 coils on 0 setting. 1.8 inches of lift.
I would consider the rear lift

 

I have a 1.5” level on mine and nothing in the rear. The front is a little over a 1/4” taller.

My reason for only doing the front is for the purpose of installing a Winch Bumper and Winch.

.75" spacer in front.

 

When I leveled with a spacer I think I had .5 and it was VERY close to level. Less than 1/4 inch lower in the front.

 

Just depends on the spacer thickness. I wanted to be a little higher in the front and did not want to have difficulty aligning it so I chose that size.

 

Thought I would follow up, Bilstein 5100 on the 4th notch leveled the front out with the rear suspension height. Very pleased with the look and handling improvements both on and off road. Definitely worth the money!
