Thanks, After playing around with Chirp for a little bit I found than going into properties shows the info that I was looking for. The new BTECH UV-5X3 has a few quirks but for the price seems to get by. Can’t wait for my Yaesu FTM-300DR:thumbsup: KE0EXT!

Ok, I got my FTM-300DR in and installed!:bananadance: Have APRS.FI installed on the iPad! The question is how do you guys have your tablets set up to use with out WIFI. Just using RF when off grid. Have a serial cable coming for the radio to hook up to a Ubuntu laptop, but would like to be able to use a tablet for maps and tracking. Would be interested in different setups. Been looking into Raspberry PI items. Any info on setups would help my Google search time:frusty: So many different setup’s out there, just trying to find out what people are using that works for them. Thanks in advance!:spending:

I am unsure of doing it with that model but this video sets up aprs droid on an Android tab with a ftm 400

    https://youtu.be/TerxrVD2FEg

You need to load the APK for aprs droid instead of using the app from the store....

    Hey radio people-

Can I put two nmo mounts on my roof like a foot apart or less for my ham and CB?

Don't have much roof available on my access cab with the GFC overhang. If not, I'll just use a hood mount for the CB.

As a general rule, no. Usually you want 1 wavelength separation (not happening with CB though). In theory you could overload the input circuits for radio reception while the other is broadcasting. In this case I'd worry more about the CB than most HAM units because of better input filters.

You could put them on and use them separately.

bringing this back to life since its time to upgrade and redo my antenna was using a simple mag mount on the roof, but now have a Camper taking up most of the roof. i seen some NMO mounts on the hood and front bumper wondering what other options I have, running a yaesu FTM-400. @bot102 what where you planning to do on yours?

@thefatkid had an antenna he liked mounted on hood lip by windshield. Think Eric (Gramps) was running the same set-up.

I do believe I have the same setup. I can always hear you guys fine, but you've said in the past my transmit quality is not so good. Originally the bracket was not grounded, but have since ground down the paint on the back lip of the hood where it clamps and I think it has since gotten better? I can't hear myself, so you'd know better than I would. Was it any better at eagle rock compared to last year?

I'm running this setup on my 4runner with no transmission/reception issues. I'm on the right corner of the hood. I didn't use the paint protection pad so my allen/grub screws pierced the paint. I sealed the area with a dielectric spray. I will be moving to the roof/roof rack here soon when I eliminate the CB, it hasn't been on in over a year. Will get a dedicated FRS/GMRS radio as it seems that is where the unlicensed communications are shifting to.
