    You probably could, but why? What happens when you need to take the mat out to clean dirt from under, or want to slide something heavy into the bed without the mat? I take mine out a lot since heavy things don't slide on it. Or to wash dirt, mulch, etc out.

    Clean underneath? :facepalm: You is craaaazzyyy, man! :crazy: LOL

    I did think about that and it would be a PITA to keep crap from building up under there. Maybe I will use the two bolts up in the front corners so I can still keep the drain hole open and be able to flip it up to wash underneath.

    Yeah, I'm just thinking is it really worth dealing with an impact wrench to take the bed bolts out whenever you want to move the bed mat?

    Hell, there are times I flip it up into the front of the bed because I have a 100+ lb box or something that I can't lift/slide over the mat by myself. It's just so much easier to slide a heavy box over the polymer bed than the rubber mat.

    Technically it would work but I'd advise against it. It's completely unnecessary when one bolt will do (as this mod provides). We're just looking to stop the opportunistic thief, not a demolition specialist.

    Or in really wet or foggy areas during Fall all the slime that would form under there. Imagine the loogy build up all in between the little rubber nubs. I'd want to power wash under there. Eww.

    Same here. I took the sage advice of you folks and did it just like the OP. I used a lock washer under the wing nut. I hope it holds up to the vibrations and flexing, etc and stays put.

    Got my bed mat this week. Did your bolt down "mod", was really easy. I painted the bolt black so it blends in a little. Thanks for the tip on this. Living in a big city, I guarantee someone would grab this thing out of my bed if it wasn't bolted down.

    Old thread is old yo! I took my bed mat bolt out when I got a truck shell. Makes cleaning under the mat a lot easier! :thumbsup:

    I did this mod. For the most part my Taco is safely garaged, but I do travel frequently for business and often leave my Taco in the airport parking garage for long periods of time. The mod gives me piece of mind that my bed mat will still be there after a long trip.

    I found mine locally on Craigslist. It was for a longbed but I just trimmed the top and yippy a bedmat for $30

    Living in Austin, TX, you have to check for scorpions before you just go pulling it out. Maybe even a Copper Head. They like curling up in those dry shade spaces.
