I have a 96 tacoma 2.4l 5 speed with just the stock gauges and it has no rpm tachometer and I want to figure out if it is possible to hook one up and if so any suggestions will help. COST, BRAND, INSTALLATION INFO, TROUBLE SHOOTING ETC.

rims,tires,3"/6" drop, 4x4 front end, 01 tails and corners, prerunner buckets, tenzo r steering wheel w/ momo hub, b&m shifterw/ jdm trd knob, alpine system, tint, 3 3/4" autometer tach, jardine cat back, k&n, debaged, hellwig rear sway bar, kyb monomax shocks, tundra v8 oil filter w/ mobil 1 in ever
autometer makes a nice 2 5/8" and a 3" tach. they go for less than $100 and are pretty decent.or you can go to autozone and pick up a $30 sunpro tach. installation is pretty straight forward: 12v power, ground, lights and tach signal wire which is located behind the glovebox. the instructions usually tell you exactly what wire is needed for the tach signal.

i forgot to say that you can get an oem cluster with a tach out of another tacoma of the same year with a 4cyl. motor and transplant it into your truck. like a 3rz powered 4x4 5 spd or sr5 tacoma with 4cyl.

The most difficult part on my 2000 tacoma 2.4L 5sp is figuring out which wire on the ECU is the signal wire...... if 1996 had single coil, just hook to coil under the hood, if ECU under the dash, make sure you know the right wire on the ECU.
