    In some areas you’ll then have to get towed away when you have poorly functioning taillights, tinted windows, etc. because it you cause a horrific accident and the cop let you go, it can be a liability for that LEO and their dept.

    Smoke salmon instead!

    @slowlane, I am going to
    Pass on the tint. The negatives out weights the positive.

    Solid points especially the one about possibly insurance disclaiming on an accident. Not worth it.

    I read no hate in this discussion. Some facts, some reality and driving awareness.

    The OP came to HIS decision based on the responses to HIS question.

    The term "haters" has become a common term to denigrate anything/comment that is from a different view or based in fact or based in reality.

    I wish you a good day.....or a bad day, whichever fits what you want.

    My opinion is no for blacking out any lights, but a light tint on the tails can look good. I’d definitely go with a film, easily removed when you change your mind. Just stay within the DOT laws of your state and you’ll be fine.
    I haven’t tinted my Tacoma tails, but did add a light smoke to my Audi tails and in 3 years of ownership I never had an issue.

    I have a set from Cali Raised that I like. They came with LEDs and are brighter than my stock lights.

    Black housing with tint? Cali raised sold you a tinted taillight? I bet for legal reasons they're sold for off road use only.

    No, there wasn't any notation like that. IIRC, they had a DOT # on the inside housing. I suspect it doesn't matter if they have dark lenses as long as they meet the specifications for visibility for marker/brake lights/turn signals. The lighting is more visible than that of factory lights due to the LEDs. I like the dark look with this body color. The truck should have come this way.

    The legality issue may lie with applying a film or spray over an existing red lens. I think that is how our tinted window laws read in CA. It's the application of film or liquid tint. In that case it's about visibility in or out of the vehicle.

    It’s all preference but I don’t like it personally. Low light projection and having to deal with aftermath in case they start peeling.
