Toyolex Parts Connection

Has anyone bought parts from Toyolex?

Timing belt kit for the 3.4 Tacoma is around $350 with water pump etc.

I am wondering if they are indeed OEM parts that they sell.

Just looked up "Toyo/Lex timing belt" on eBay and it looks like aircabinman is the seller, that's a good one to go with. His kits are used by a lot of people on here

I bought a few parts from a guy who got them through Toyolex. They seem good, other than the water pump being wrapped in plastic wrap and a couple of the oil seal packages look funny. I was missing the water pump gasket and ordered that through the dealer.

does anyone here drive an automatic 1st gen Tacoma? I have an o2 sensor(89467-35060)
They were included in the parts I bought from the guy. I have a 5-speed.

I've noticed some parts/kits on eBay will show as being shipped from within the US, but when you look at where the seller is based out of by clicking on their profile it'll say based in China...gotta watch out for that for sure.

The problem is that nothing he shows in this video proves that the eBay parts were counterfeit.

Toyota uses many suppliers who package parts differently, and Toyota uses different packaging in different regions.

The belt with the part number tag is how Toyota Japan supplies their parts. The white box is how Toyota USA supplies theirs. The difference in belt surface finish is also typical of variations in supplier and/or region. This is also true for the red/white box (typical of Toyota Japan) vs. the brown box (typical of Toyota USA).

Now I'm not saying the parts he got on eBay were genuine, they were totally fake, but the reasons presented in the video aren't necessarily why.

90916-A2019 is a Toyota USA-supplied part, so the white box packaging is correct, however if genuine it would have been a Bando-supplied belt, not Mitsuboshi. Additionally, while the same part number can sometimes come from other countries, usually it will be from the same country, and 90916-A2019 should be made in USA. It's a Toyota USA-supplied part number with a Toyota Japan-style label on a Toyota USA-style package.

The first thing I noticed on the eBay pulley boxes was the odd font on the labels. While Toyota USA often uses various fonts, Toyota Japan is much more consistent, particularly on those "official" looking parts labels. Now, I have seen some that are different, but it's rare.

Now, having worked in the Toyota parts business for the better part of 2 decades, I can safely say that Toyota uses all kinds of packaging for all kinds of parts, and that a lot of the videos you see online showing "how to tell if..." would flag a lot of real, genuine parts as fake. Toyota put some effort into reducing fakes on their oil filters about 10 years ago, but even then it's inconsistent at best.

For instance, this is how some parts come from Toyota, with an odd font, misaligned text (that is also cut off).

When looking to spot counterfeit Toyota parts, it pays to understand how things are done, what the part numbers generally mean, and that Toyota/suppliers change their packaging whenever they feel like it. You may order 10 of a part number and get 3 different styles of packaging depending on manufacturing date or location.

I bought a kit from them before and some of the parts looked suspect. Took the parts to my local Toyota dealership to compare with genuine parts. They were different colors and had different markings/branding.

Emailed the seller and got a refund for the parts that looked suspect. Off the top of my head those parts were the spark plug tube gaskets, main seals, and cam gaskets.

They were very responsive and had no problem refunding me. At first they said the parts can come from different manufacturers, but agreed to refund after I sent photos of the difference between their parts and the ones from the dealership. Even the "Toyota" parts sticker on their parts looked suspect. I'll upload if I can find them.

A member posted in another thread something similar, that they bought some parts thru some random warehouse type retailer and the parts came in and apparently matched what he saw in a “counterfeit” video another member posted. Guy then bought parts straight from local dealer parts counter and compared. They were the same. Some of these “counterfeit” vids are people blowing smoke.

 

Additionally, parts do come from multiple suppliers and manufacturers, sometimes dealers will have both in stock. Sometimes online sellers are selling the Japanese-sourced parts instead of the local dealers selling locally-sourced parts, and so on.

Knowing this, and how to find alternates can sometimes be the difference between a vehicle being back on the road today or in 3 weeks if that one specific part number isn't readily available. It also becomes important as vehicles get older and one part number is no longer available.

metro is the seller, yes some of the main seals/ gaskets looks suspect on mine as well. same kit I believe.
