I just looked and it doesn’t really show it either way, but if you cut the amount off it says to, it looks like it would go behind the plastic.

There was another guy that put it in front of those small strips of metal but he said his truck had been wrecked.

Here is the instructions for reference

well obviously, I didn't get to see the videos!
Here's a good pic of mine, went on easy enough and I think it looks clean, too. Looks like tabs in front is correct though? Oh well...I'm NOT changing it now! :crapstorm:

I think the tabs should be in front of the plastic bumper to help hold it in place since you remove all the support structure down the middle but I don’t know, just a guess

Funny! I seem to recall I put the tab behind for the very same reason; to support the plastic. Oh well...vive la differance!

Awesome, I'm curious what they say. I'm not even of the position that there is a wrong or right in the way they turned out. I did it my way and you did yours and I feel both are reasonable and attractive. I'm not going to say the world is out of step and my way is best at all. I only asked "why" originally to see what the reasoning was and, if I missed something. No objection here at all. I'm sure BA had their own intentions as to installation. Curious for sure but, still not changing it. o_O

Yea I don’t care either way. I just want to do it the way it was intended. When you cut the top and down the sides it removed that whole center section. By pressing the lip up against the front of the bumper skin I would think it would hold it in place better than on the back side but I could be wrong. I scoured the body armor Instagram page and as people posted pictures most of them seem to be on the front side of the skin where you can see the lip. It will be interesting to see what body armor was thinking on this as clearly it doesn’t say in the Manual

So I went to great lengths to understand this too. Turns out the fitment of the bumper is designed to tuck behind that tang. It works to retain your plastic. I tried mine both ways cause I feel it looks way better hidden HOWEVER I found that my plastic did not fit correctly and my black plastic inserts were gapping out all weird if you looked close. As a result I called BA and they confirmed the fitment and purpose.
If you think about it and are backing up with anything that snags underneath, we have now cut away plastic and fasteners that were designed to provide integrity to the facia.
I didn’t like seeing the tangs but am much more comfortable with the fitment result and purpose

    Per manufacturer.
    In front is correct
    In behind looks better

I think I'm as likely to snag the plastic on something going forward as backward, yes? Silly topic but a pleasant and enjoyable discussion nonetheless. Thanks for clearing it up. To be fair, if for some reason I ever have to remove the bumper you can bet I'll remember this discussion and give "proper" re-installation due consideration. Thanks again!

Great, thanks for the heads up and clearing this up. I thought that was the case. Once you cut that lower valance you lose some support so pushing those tangs up against the edge guard you place on the bumper cut and then bolt it at the back it should hold it in place. Should be putting mine on in the next couple days with a Warn EVO VR 10S and the body armor light bar.....

I had no choice with mine. I screwed up the cut a little bit that made it so the tabs had to go in front of the bumper. It actually hid my terrible chop job.

When I cut mine, I cut just barely too much to overlap that little metal edge, so while I can temporarily place the plastic in front of it, after a few days it works its way behind. I'm trying to not let it bother me anymore, despite my wish that I'd left a little more material so it would comfortably stay in front. Argh.

Edit: I see the post above said the same thing. So for anyone about to install this bumper, cut less off the sides than you think you may need, and adjust from there. Wish I'd done that.

As posted a few back. The bumper skin is supposed to go behind the tabs according to body armor.

I saw that after I posted but left my comment in case someone prefers to make it sit in front for the look they want.
