Sitting a little higher than the bed is not a big deal (to me). How well do they fit otherwise? Can you fit multiples in the bed nearly perfectly like the Action Packers? That seems to be the best selling point of the APs to me.

Not sure how much you weigh but they definitely are not as strong as they claim. I have a 24 gallon one and I used it as a seat one night camping and the box expanded and deformed. Lids are strong as hell but the actual tub is weak and flimsy. I am 6'2" 190lbs so it ain't like I am some big ol' boy. I will be replacing it come spring camping.

Costco has these black tubs with yellow lids that are slightly bigger than the 24 gallon action packer. They have notches to put locks thru, and are only $9.99. With the lid on they seal water out and two of them hold all my buddies camping gear.

    It's a thread revival!

I am finding conflicting size info on the 24 gallon. Does anyone that has one know if a 2 burner propane coleman stove will fit in it flat on the bottom of the box?

I got the one big one and 2 small Action Packers and I really like them. Probably going to get a 2nd big one to match the same setup as OP. If you shop around, you can find these on sale. I got the big one for like $74 shipped about 2 years ago.

as much as I like the AP, I feel like it would be better suited to buy a nice metal tool box that fits in between the wheel wells. I understand the mobility of the AP, but I would tear up that plastic with the quickness with all the crap i throw in my bed or would put in the AP.

I have found these to be the best size/weight combination... Plano Sportsman Locker. No you cant stand on them and you can't overpack them like you can a zippered suitcase but we have used these on several camping/hunting trips and they are holding up well. When loaded its about all 1 person can carry/load. And when not in use the lids come off for nesting... I can get 6 of them, stacked 2 tall by 3 front to back plus 3 bow cases in the back of the short bed with a softopper in place.

I have heard that a tool box for the ford splash fits in our beds nicely

Thank you! You just solved my bed storage problem. I was way off base by thinking about getting plastic storage bins.
