Had my big OOFFFF today. I am pretty sure I broke the gimbal on my mini 2, I never fly in crazy weather, or epic winds. it was calm with a variable gust to aprox 20-35mphs. a min or so in between, I need to get one small shot, sent it up and I was totally wrong on my predictions so it threw the mini 2 into a tall tree on the side of the mountain. I had to hike down and throw rocks at the limbs to get it down. Good thing for drone insurance! best 50 bucks ever

Two broken props, one completely sheered off cleanly from under the prop nut.

To be fair this is a different animal but that is a DJI vtx/camera.

that's a cool drone, I have no experience with building FPV/DIY drones at home. But I have really really considered a cinewhoop ,gopro bare to keep things light. You can take video to next levels since you can squeeze into tight places.

Very much, I fly more for the flippy floppy amusement without an action cam. Those videos are from the goggle DVR 720p. GoPro did just come out with their own decased "naked" GoPro. The later models of GoPro like the 8/9/10 are heavy so people decase them to cut the weight and use the drone battery to power the GoPro.

    https://gopro.com/en/us/shop/cameras/hero10-black-bones/CHDBO-101-master.html

Doubt BestBuy will be selling it, their insurance is a little nicer than getting it from GoPro since you can just pop in the store and in most situations walk out with the replacement.

seen them, they are nice, how do those even stabilize? rubber dampening around the mount ? I have not owned a go pro since like 2020, I bought one for diving when I was in the PNW, sold it after. I think Asurion is going to total my mini 2 and just give me a refund via Amazon where i got mine. Such a good little drone. Idk what I will get next as a replacement. I do like the DJI fpv and most of the drones they make. What is your take on the FAA remote ID requirements by 2023? for all drones I think, even under 249g?

Not sure about the stabilize question, they are usually mounted with a strap or a TPU print. Otherwise I know there are software apps that utilize the gyro in the GoPro to clean it up (one is RealSteady, other is Gyroflow I think).

Not too concerned with the FAA at the moment, it's not like they have the manpower to do any enforcement anyway. There are freestyle YT channels that post content all the time that are against various FPV rules, yet nothing happens. Same as the rest of the world, pretty much everywhere already has the 250 gram limit already and on top of that are supposed to be broadcasting at no greater than 25mw. There are all kinds of freestyle quads you can build that are under 250g. This one is what they call a 3" (prop size) toothpick, it's 125 grams and would be much less if it didn't have the DJI vtx. There are plenty of 3.5" and up to 5" sub 250 gram you can build.

yeah thats wild, I get it why they keep wanting to impose more rules. guys flying their drones in places they should not be, I heard they are getting tons of pushback about the remote ID crap. We shall see what happens. I have my trust cert, but I am still on the fence about the 107. its cool, but I think its silly require it just to make a 1$.

Don't fly your drones illegally, that shit will wreck my day if you're being an idiot with it.

My DJI refresh expires in about a month so I will probably burn it into the ground shortly afterwards. So far I've been doing a lot of flying over water and managed to not splash down at all. Retrieving from a moving boat can be fun sometimes but I have a neon green float that straps to the drone so I can recover it for insurance if it does end up in the water.

One of the places I buy gear from RaceDayQuads (highly recommended btw) has a battle with them now that looks promising. But don't stop GovCo from overreaching like everything else. I've got the TRUST cert too, even bothered to submit the $5 registration which is supposed to cover your whole fleet under same serial number.

Hear you on the 107, I'd get one but my day job keeps me occupied. Kind of like the fees for CWP. Pay for a class that you should pretty much know all the material before setting foot in. Then pay pay more every few years to keep the license in check. Though the 107 renewal i beleive is every 2 years and you have to show up and retake. I've heard of people failing the 107 very recently because they changed up the material and a lot of the online classes didn't have that material covered in their primers. Don't recall what but it might have been remote id stuff.

the 107 is pretty challenging, at least some of the content is. I was in aviation in the military so I understand some. But NOTAMS, charts, classes of air space. it is a lot to learn.

Nothing, not even a bent prop, flew the rest and another pack after it. But I err on the side of disarming rather than trying to fly out of it to save the motors or ESC.
