Good handheld cb radio?

    Hey guys and gals, I'm a heavy equipment operator and looking for the best hand held cb radio out there. Doesn't have to go far. Maybe a mile. It's Just nice telling my semis what to do before they come on the job and it's a mess. Also looking for a decent walkie talkie.

    How long does that last on a charge? And how far does it go. I'll be inside a loader so I was worried about the reception

    It should last a full day on AA's if I remember right..Range is decent with the shortie, right on par with the big boys when hooked to a full size antenna.

    I use it in my truck with the adapter, so can't really remember battery life but remember using it on trail runs pre adapter and it lasted all day.
    those new lithium AA's should last quite awhile, I get double run time with those in other devices.

    I have the midland too.

    you wont get anywhere NEAR to a mile with it using batteries and the small antenna it comes with.

    i get MAYBE 200' with it.

    works good when wired to an external antenna with the truck adapter.

    So all the antenna is a magnetic one that has a cord to run to the unit? Than the same thing with the power? Does it go to a cigarette lighter plug

    yea there is an adapter type part that you attach to the radio and it has a regualr
    $38 pl259 USA made PL-259 improved double shielded rg-58u for firestik antenna K-8A 18-foot single cb/ham coax cable
    pl259 connector for an antenna and a cig power connector.

    Then it works fine.

    Still not AMAZING range. but not bad.

    It's been awhile, I'll change "decent range" to 1/4 mile range on a good day with the short antenna.

    But mine does well hooked to my truck antenna.

    hooked up to a real antenna its okay..1/4-1/2 mile.

    pathetic compared to my Uinden 520xlpro tho which is closer to 2+ miles.

    Do you trim your antenna's? You should have a much further range with both units.
    Wire whips give the best distance.

    i have a 5' firestik with the 520xl. Before i wired in all my lights i had like 5+ miles with it. I just need to change the wiring directly to the battery.

    i have a whip with the midland one. And have tuned it too. It just never seemed to be as strong
