    I think CM is sending me a message. I ask for real world directions like "That wire is under the steering wheel" and he replies with another beautifully rendered schematic that probably has a ton of information to those who can understand it, but doesn't really tell me where to find the wire in a "dumbed down" sort of way. I think he's saying "If this doesn't answer your question, maybe you shouldn't be cutting wires that might disable your truck"! :D

    Message received. I'm not complaining - CM has given me a ton of help the last few weeks. It just cracks me up. With the plan still evolving it's probably not something I should jump on yet. But I'm game when there's a clearer consensus.

    Don't know why I love the idea of a kill switch so much, but I do.

    Word of advice: If you ever have your truck serviced at a shop, be sure they know about your kill switch. I had a battery replaced once, and forgot to tell the shop about my kill switch, and they spent a LONG time trying to figure out why my truck wouldn't start before they finally called me. My battery cost about $300 because of the labor involved:eek: Never more, quoth the raven, never more.

    Ok, I made a device that keeps the EFI power circuit open and allows the vehicle to crank but not start.
    The cranking will attract attention to your vehicle. They can crank till the batterys dead.
    Or, you can connect this device to any circuit that will dissable the engine.
    To start your vehicle, turn the key to the ON position and swipe a magnet across the
    area with the hidden switch, and start your vehicle. When you turn the vehicle off, the device resets.
    so you need to swipe the magnet every time to start, and there is no need to remember to arm the device. I also include a failsafe feature that
    deactivates the device to allow you to deactivate the device for mechanics or if you just want to disable
    the device until you want it active.
    There are a multitude of circuits you can disable with this device. It can be used for autos, trucks, boats, motorcycles, anything with an ignition switch and engine!
    It comes with instructions for installation.

    I know that something like this was mentioned previously, but I have the devices and they're ready to ship!

    Installation time: depends on the locations you choose, but estimate one to two hours.

    I installed this on my 2001 Tacoma, now I don't worry about my truck being stolen.

    Not foolproof, I agree. I still think it would stop the average crackhead or high school kid. It would certainly throw them off if they were not familiar with the override. Anything that disrupts their quick getaway would help. I know on a Ford if the brake interlock fails, all you have to do is put the key in the off position (not lock), shift to neutral, start truck, then put it in gear and drive. Simple enough and does not require tools. But I have seen an extra switch wired into that circuit on law enforcement vehicles. Just gives the officer another minute to get the bad guy before he steals the car. A thief does not want to waste another minute outside your house in a running vehicle that makes noise when started.

    There is no way to trip it unless you have a problem turning the key off while you drive. If you have that problem, you have a problem.

    I see questions about using a hidden switch, and what amp rating to use. My system uses a 30 Amp relay, so you can install with almost any circuit, but the device is wired for 10 Amps.

    Since I began making, using and distributing this system, there has never been a failure.

    Hey does anybody realize that the key you put in the ignition has an imobilizer system in it that cuts fuel to the engine if not sensed by the ECU

    Im sure everyone knows that. However, your remote is probably on your keys, and your remote is great for finding your car. Loose a set of keys and this is great peace of mind.

    Quick noob question here. I have a base model standard 5 speed (does not have start clutch cancel), the clutch has to be pressed all the way in to start. Could I rig a switch into those wires instead of hacking into the ignition wires? Does any one know where to find the wires?

    Not all Tacomas have them. My 2009 that I drive at work does not have one. My 2006 TRD does.

    Yes you could. The switch is visible under the dash. Just follow the wires back into the harness until you're in a spot that's somewhat difficult to access for a thief and splic your wires. Of course, this does not prevent pushstarting, and it is also easy to bypass from under the hood. But if the thief is just your average punk, it may be all you need to get them to move on.

    A well configured kill switch is the best and cheapest anti theft mod you can do.
    I like this mod but when I do it, I''ll route some wire down to a place under the carpet and mount a nice momentary switch so I can use my foot.

    To those who were talking about making the switch inline with the brake for an auto - there's still an easy way to get your truck in gear. That little hatch looking cover thing in front of the shifter can be taken off. If you press the button underneath it you can change the gears without even putting the keys in. I'm guessing that's for if you are getting towed :p
