I installed a Softopper, so I've been thinking of adding a 3rd brake to the hitch--there are already a few products out there for this.

Instead of plugging into the trailer hitch wiring (factory plug on 3rd gens), what would be the pros/cons of going this route (tapping into brake light with your kit)?

Nothing visible and no cutting or splicing of OEM wire.

If Johnny is ok with it and you want to save a couple of $’s on shipping I can take care of you. I’m off the Santa Fe Drive exit on I5.

If I buy a light that is plug n play with trailer hitch connector, there would be no cutting or splicing of OEM wire either.

I will shoot you a PM in the morning
Yeah, @daveeasa can hook you up :) Shoot him a PM :boink:
This is absolutely true. I know there is another option (and @caribe makaira could definitely point you in the right direction), but here is one way to go https://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Hopkins/HM41158.html But I’m not sure that is what you are referring too? Maybe you mean a light that will just plug into the trailer wiring port? Something like this https://www.etrailer.com/s.aspx?qry=C53201 Which is an easy option too. Of course, you will have a plug hanging back there all the time with something like that. I can do anything from a simple tap like these up to a flange mounted receptacle that can do turn signals, parking lights, bed lights, lock/unlock, constant 12V, and of course, brakes. All without splicing, and all pretty clean once installed.

Can I get in on this action?
I have a blank plate SR as well. I have this 3rd brake light tap in my "to-do" pile already.

I will include you. Been kind of side tracked lately, but @caribe makaira did hook me up with what I needed. Now I just have to remember where he put it....

    Thanks for the input!

I suppose I could easily do something like this (or the eTrailer equivalent): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CRE1IVG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

However, coming from the Subaru world, I thought it would be interesting to put an "F1" style brake light on the back of my Tacoma. If I could figure out how to mount this in the hitch AND wire it safely, this would function as a 3rd brake light, brighter reverse light, and a rear fog lamp all in one: https://www.subispeed.com/part/15-s...rse-brake-light-with-pnp-adapter#.YMGdrzZKg-Q

Any thoughts on whether that would pair well with your light tap product?

I believe I could make it pair perfect with something like that. From what I can tell, it needs a brake, parking, and reverse signal? That is totally doable. I am not sure what connector is on that light, but I could try to match it, or swap it for a 4 port deutsch or weatherpack or something. Make the whole thing plug and play :)

@Puppypunter, Can I please get in on this. I have a 2016 OR. Do you know if this will work with Meso stage 1 taillight kit? If not I would still like to purchase a harness if possible.

    Thank you

Like @Tacospike said, it will work. It goes before the Meso harness, and won’t change it’s functionality. I’ll shoot you a PM :)

I am very interested in seeing if we can make this work, if you are!

I’d hate to have you invest time/money for nothing...PM me if you’d like a cash deposit in advance or something.

Random question but is there any way you make a harness for blinker taps?

Sorry everyone, been slacking. I will get PMs sent out tomorrow and try to get everyone taken care of.

I can do blinker taps. Let me know what you're looking for. I usually do one side with a long enough wire to reach the other side of the truck.
