I want new wheels without the price. I would like to make my existing wheels black and indigo ink (toss up or both?). And I know nothing about how this is done or who can do this for me. Some taco-genius would be greatly appreciated!

I just painted my cheap steelies last week. I had never painted wheels before either, I found hodges and others write ups helpful and they gave me the confidence I needed.

I used duplicolors wheel paint and their sandable primer. The results where great, the black wheels on the silver truck look much better than silver on silver.

Something that had crossed my mind while prepping to paint was to paint over the weights or not, knowing I would have to then repaint the wheels when I got new tires. I decided to leave the silver ring on the outside, I have not decided if I like that look or not but I have some time to decide. If I can figure out how to downsize photos I'll post some pics. Save the cash and do it yourself, if you take your time you will be surprised with your results.

I was also wondering about powder coating. I have a number for a guy to call to see how much it is going to cost. This will of course be a temp fix until i can get enough money to get new rims and tires. i am guessing around $60 for each wheel?

    Oh Yeah!!!
Wow, $60 would be a steal. Im thinking that a true powder coat job would probably cost you the price of an average aftermarket set of wheels.

that is just a guess...i will end up calling him to find out for sure. but that would be just the front of the rim not the whole thing.

I can get a set of wheels done for about $250 can (powder coated black) so I would assume the states would have similar pricing if not better. That would be for a generic 14" - 17" wheel. The larger the wheel or the more detail it has the price will go up. Anyone who gets prices much higher than that is getting ripped off considering it's not very labour intensive, but does take a bit of time (oven baking).
