Power vs economy

Economy first. I'm pretty confident their is no such thing as free HP. But a freind told me heard that simple stuff like air systems and exhaust will give a little bit more of but better fuel eco and a little more power. is he right.

If he's not, What are cheap mods that would give me either or.

 

Your friend is right about both intake and exhaust. Both give you more HP and better MPG. More air better cumbustion= more power

 

Your friend is partially correct... atleast from what I've experienced.

Adding exhaust ALONE can gain better gas mileage.

Adding intake or efficient air filter ALONE can gain better gas mileage.

However - when you put exhaust AND intake together, usually means more fuel consumption and less MPG.

Other ways to gain MPG? Tonneau cover, increase air pressure in tires by a few lbs, synthetic lubricants, be easy on the gas, Keep vehicle maintained, etc.

 

I wonder why both together would make the mpg go down. Ok air filters, good brands? I also read about removing secondary air filters.

I dont have access to a lift and their aren't any paved surfaces around my house

I got a camper shell and i do use synthetics. ill check what my tired are rated at pressure wise.

 

Your '99 doesn't have a secondary air filter, only 2005+ do.

 

electric fan is a good way to add mpg and HP i gained 2.7 mpg who knows how much hp though

 

But... with the amount of money spent on the mods, you could buy a lot of fuel.
